Star Wars is finally returning to theaters with The Mandalorian & Grogu, but excitement has been muted so far after its first trailer release. That said, there's a genuine opportunity for some major redemption thanks to the Super Bowl.
After 7 years of only shows on Disney+, the Star Wars franchise has desperately needed a new movie on the big screen. After The Mandalorian & Grogu's initial marketing didn’t quite land, here's why the "Big Game" could become a pivotal turning point for the upcoming Star Wars movie.
The Mandalorian & Grogu Is Expected To Have One Of The Biggest Big Game Trailers

According to a recent report from Deadline, The Mandalorian & Grogu is expected to debut a Super Bowl trailer alongside major releases like Toy Story 5, Hoppers, Minions 3, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Disclosure Day, Scream 7, and Michael.
Interestingly, there are no major superhero movie trailers in Deadline's report, like Supergirl, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, or Avengers Doomsday, as many were likely expecting. This places The Mandalorian & Grogu among the most high-profile moments of the entire broadcast.
With millions watching, the Big Game is certainly capable of affecting public perception. It's why studios pay millions to get their trailers airtime in the first place. For The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, it's a chance to reframe the movie as the true cinematic event Star Wars movies always have been (rather than just an extension of Disney+ storytelling).
The Super Bowl Can Generate The Excitement Star Wars' Return To Theaters Deserves

The first Mandalorian & Grogu trailer was admittedly underwhelming, revealing little story and lacking the scale expected from Star Wars’ long-awaited return to the big screen. It felt more like a streaming teaser for The Mandalorian season 4 rather than a bold announcement that Star Wars movies are finally back.
Keeping that in mind, an epic new Super Bowl trailer (combined with supposedly less competition) could be the perfect course correction. If the new Mandalorian & Grogu trailer sticks the landing, the Super Bowl could mark the point where Star Wars really kicks off the blockbuster momentum and hype Jon Favreau's upcoming movie absolutely deserves.
