Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Legacy of VaderWhile there may yet be hope for The Hunt Ben Solo, we also just got a tease for even more Kylo Ren stories in the Star Wars franchise's future. Following the recent conclusion of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, it seems as though a follow-up is likely in the works.
Coming from writer Charles Soule with art by Luke Ross, Marvel's canonical Legacy of Vader series recently concluded after 12 issues. Set between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, the series sees the Supreme Leader uncovering more about his grandfather's past and seeking to replicate the depths of Vader's power from the dark side.
However, Legacy of Vader's final issue did not wrap things up and set up Rise of Skywalker as we thought it would, and it's since been suggested that a new Kylo Ren series may already be in the works.
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader Ended On A Major Cliffhanger For Kylo Ren
Legacy of Vader #12 ended with Kylo Ren experiencing one of his most intense Force visions yet. Deep within Darth Vader’s secret vault within his fortress on Mustafar, Kylo confronted not his grandfather, but the light still buried inside himself.
That light manifested itself as the Jedi Ben Solo he could have been (and could still become). As a result, "Ben Solo" rejects Kylo Ren's belief that the past can ever be fully killed. Following their intense confrontation, Kylo Ren was physically expelled from the vault, falling face-first from Vader’s castle toward Mustafar’s lava rivers below.
Of course, we know that Kylo Ren survives due to his future role in Rise of Skywalker, though it was still surprising that his fate was left so unresolved with this major cliffhanger, especially with some key narrative threads being left unresolved.
New Kylo Ren Stories Were Just Teased By Star Wars Writer Charles Soule
Adam Driver as Ben Solo in The Rise of Skywalker
Two weeks later, Charles Soule has now addressed the final page of Legacy of Vader #12 in his recent newsletter:
"What the hell kind of a series ender is that? What was I thinking? That's terribly inconclusive and unsatisfying. Who conceived of such a thing? The writer should be fired!... I hope we find out what all that means someday. IF ANYTHING. You know these writer types, thinking they're cooler than they are, pulling these dumb tricks when readers just want a cool story."
Clearly, it does feel as though a follow-up is in the works. To that point, Soule then confirmed that he has a few different Star Wars projects in the works: "You'll hear about one of them pretty soon, a few others probably before year-end or in early 2027, and the other one, the big one... that'll be a while."
With any luck, one of Soule's mysterious Star Wars projects will hopefully be a follow-up to Legacy of Vader. After all, it's not just Kylo Ren's fall from Darth Vader's castle that needs to be addressed.
Legacy of Vader also revealed that Tava Ren had been leading the Knights of Ren since before the events of The Force Awakens, explaining their absence from the first two sequel movies after Kylo Ren betrayed them to serve Snoke and the First Order outright.
However, Kylo Ren will eventually have to face Tava Ren once more so that he can regain leadership of his Knights, as we see in Rise of Skywalker.
