Ryan Coogler is beloved for his genre work. Whether it be his return to the Rocky franchise with his Creed movies or the beauty that is his Black Panther films, Coogler has a way of captivating audiences with his films. His latest work, Sinners, has become such a sensation that it is now the film with the most Oscar nominations of all time. Raking in 16 nominations for the film as a whole, its success is something worth noting. And now fans are revisiting the film (or watching it for the first time) on streaming! Sinners is ranking number 1 on the HBO Max streaming charts.

Sinners tells the story of Sammy (Miles Caton), the young son of a preacher who has found his love of music despite his father's wishes. He wants to go and help his cousins, twins named Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan), with their new juke joint, but his father warns him of the devil waiting for him. Little did he know how close to reality that would be, when the juke joint soon has to face off against a villainous vampire who wants to grow his collective, no matter the cost.

Remmick (Jack O'Connell) traps Sammy, the twins, and their guests in the bar, and the rest is cinematic history. Sinners also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, Delory Lindo, and so many more in a film that has really taken hold of film fans. From Halloween costumes to the internet memes that keep on giving, there is a lot to love about Sinners outside of the film itself. The music, which was written by Ludwig Göransson, is one of the biggest draws of the film. With songs like "Last Time (I Seen the Sun), written by Göransson and Raphael Saadiq, it is no surprise that the love for Sinners keeps coming.

A New Kind of Vampire Story

Part of the allure of Sinners is that it wasn't just the same vampire story we've seen. As Coogler is known to do, the film has layers to every moment present. Remmick wasn't just the white devil trying to turn them all into monsters. Coogler made him a tragic character who watched his own people suffer in Ireland. However, he learns nothing from that pain, even using the power of music to try to harm people — unlike Sammy, who uses his connection to music for good. It is fascinating and captivating, and the love for Sinners is very much alive.
