HBO’s critically acclaimed medical drama is going head-to-head with George R.R. Martin’s favorite Game of Thrones show at the pinnacle of streaming charts. At the time of writing, The Pitt has finally taken back the #1 spot on HBO Max global streaming charts, dethroning A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which now sits at #2. There will only be six episodes in the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, so The Pitt is set up for a much longer tenure of success. Still, it didn’t need to wait for the show to go off the air to reclaim its streaming crown.

The Pitt stars Noah Wyle as a doctor at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. The show was the first original medical drama for HBO, and it’s widely viewed as one of the best shows HBO has ever produced. Season 1 picked up several Emmys, including for Best Drama Series, and Season 2 currently holds a 99% rating from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. HBO Max boss Casey Bloys also recently confirmed that the third season of the show, which was announced days before Season 2, will be released next year around the same time as the first two seasons.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the second Game of Thrones spin-off show, behind House of the Dragon. The 2026 series is set between the events of the flagship show and the Targaryen-focused spin-off, and it tells the much smaller story of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has also earned widespread critical acclaim, though some fans have criticized it for being much different than its bloodier predecessors.

What Happened to Dr. Collins in ‘The Pitt’?

One of the most popular characters from The Pitt Season 1 was Dr. Heather Collins, who was portrayed by Tracy Ifeachor. It was reported and confirmed last summer, while The Pitt Season 2 was in production, that Ifeachor would not return as Dr. Collins, and the latest episode of The Pitt finally revealed why. Dr. Whitaker mentions to a patient that Dr. Collins took another job in Portland. She previously had a romantic history with Dr. Robby that fans hoped the show would explore in future seasons.
