'Bridgerton' Season 4 Overthrows Jon Bernthal's Sleeper Hit Crime Thriller on Streaming Charts

Unsurprisingly, the latest season of Bridgerton is dominating the Netflix charts, beating out Jon Bernthal's twisty crime thriller.

It was only a matter of time before the reigning champ of Netflix returned. With Bridgerton's Season 4 release, the top streaming spot has returned to the Shonda Rhimes-created television series. Bridgerton dethroned the original series His & Hers, starring Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal, in a battle of the fan favorites to come out on top of the streaming war. But, to be fair, His & Hers has had the spot for quite a while with its January 8 release, compared to Bridgerton's release on January 29.

Bridgerton is a series based on the books by Julia Quinn that details the life of the Bridgerton children and their introduction to high society. Each season, a new Bridgerton family member is chosen as the Diamond of the Season by Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel). Often, the Bridgerton's are hard to pin down. Their choice in love is often a complicated journey, but eventually, each of the siblings finds the one meant for them. In Season 4, fans are watching as Benedict (Luke Thompson) tries to navigate his feelings for Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). Their problem? Sophie isn't of noble blood and, therefore, not deemed "suitable" for Benedict.

His & Hers is drastically different from Bridgerton in tone and style. Anna (Thompson) and Jack (Bernthal) are married to each other, but they're estranged from one another. When a murder in their town forces them both to work the case, they are suspicious of everyone, including each other. It really isn't ideal to have an investigative journalist and a homicide detective married to each other, and the series explores that in a pretty fascinating way.

It Isn't Surprising That 'Bridgerton' Took Over

Each new season of Bridgerton gets fans hooked. After Daphne's (Phoebe Dynevor) marriage to Simon (Regé-Jean Page) in Season 1, we've followed the love lives of the Bridgerton boys: Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) married Kate (Simone Ashley) in Season 2, Colin (Luke Newton) wed Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) in Season 3, and now we're seeing the story of Benedict and Sophie unfold before us. And it isn't exactly perfect, but when has that ever been the case with the Bridgerton family? There is still Bridgerton Season 4, Part 2 to come out in February, so the show's reign on Netflix might not go anywhere for a while.
