On December 27, 2025, the streaming platform released The Copenhagen Test, an action-packed sci-fi series starring Simu Liu. A few weeks later, Peacock then released Ponies, a historical spy thriller with its own A-list cast led by Haley Lu Richardson and Emilia Clarke. Both shows had plenty of promise, but they've already lost their spots in the Peacock streaming charts in the US. According to FlixPatrol, it seems viewers have gone back to their to-go comfort show, with the sitcom classic The Office now taking first place.
'The Office' Success Shows the Power of Comfort
While the release of The Copenhagen Test and Ponies certainly got people talking, with Ponies becoming a critics' favorite with an impressive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, the series' brief success in the streaming charts shows that a comfort-watch like The Office can quickly outrun bursts of premiere buzz. After all, given that The Office was a fan-favorite when it was released from 2005 to 2013, and became a true cultural phenomenon when it hit streaming, the series has been watched and adored by millions of fans all over the world. As a result, The Office is now being heavily rewatched, and becoming a low-effort yet equally satisfying watch for fans, one that requires little attention, while satisfying them with nostalgia and seemingly endless hilarious moments.
With that in mind, The Office has become one of Peacock's secret weapons. A show in which anyone can watch and rewatch while still feeling entertained and not requiring much, like plot tracking, or emotional homework. As opposed to The Copenhagen Test, for instance, where viewers need to pay close attention to the characters, follow the drama and develop theories of their own, watching The Office is easy and carefree. To fans, The Office is endlessly dependable and repeatable, and, in turn, is basically built to dominate charts.

But while The Office's rewatchability is certainly a factor, the sitcom being a go-to comfort show isn't the only explanation for its rise in streaming. Back in 2020, following the astronomical success of the series in streaming, Peacock began releasing The Office Superfan Episodes, aka extended The Office episodes with extra bonus material and extended scenes. At first, the episodes were only of the first eight seasons of the show. And, just last month, Peacock announced that a new season of The Office Superfan episodes was available to all subscribers. This new season features never-before-seen footage from the ninth and final season of The Office, and certainly makes a rewatch for fans a must-do this month.

Not only is the series a major comfort show for millions of fans, but its new extended cuts are a gift to viewers, giving them even a teensy bit of new content after over 13 years off the air. So, while new titles like The Copenhagen Test and Ponies certainly put up a good fight, The Office will always be a force to be reckoned with.
