On Tuesday evening, the BC men’s basketball team played against the Duke Blue Devils in Durham, NC. Duke is the class of the ACC this season, leading the conference with a 20-1 overall record and #4 ranking nationally, while the Eagles are fighting hard to get back to .500. As 27.5-point favorites, Duke easily contained BC to secure an 18-point victory.
The beginning of the game started out just as badly as it could’ve for Boston College. Duke immediately went on a 13-0 run after the opening tip-off, not giving up a single point until Fred Payne scored a layup five minutes into the game. Duke’s lead in the first half expanded to as many as 18 points thanks to some early domination in the paint, highlighted by dunks from Malik Brown, Isaiah Davis, and Cameron Boozer. The Blue Devils established a 42-27 lead at halftime.

Fred Payne was really the only Eagle who was able to make an impact offensively, shooting 7/14 to score 14 points on the night. BC could only muster 49 points in total against a tough Blue Devil defense that stole the ball 10 total times. Neither team shot particularly well from three-point range, who CB prevented Duke from expanding their lead to an even bigger proportion. Without much struggle, Duke came away with a 67-49 victory.
Next up, Boston College will host the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday February 7th at Conte Forum.
