It’s never been more thrilling to be a fan of Tomb Raider, specifically this year. The series’ games notwithstanding, there’s even a brand-new Tomb Raider show starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft for Amazon Prime Video that began filming earlier this month.
Therefore, it seems as if all the stars are aligning for 2026 to be particularly special, as Tomb Raider is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Among the other festivities Crystal Dynamics has planned, a Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis release date on or around the anniversary date is in the cards.
2026 Marks Tomb Raider’s 30th Anniversary
Tomb Raider 30th anniversary celebrations this year include collaboration products from partners such as Aspyr, Dark Horse, Funko, and the Tomb Raider Gear Store. However, the real celebration is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
It may not be the first Tomb Raider remake—that’d be Tomb Raider: Anniversary, ironically—but Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will once again be a remake that helps usher the franchise into a new era by taking the original game and updating it with modern visuals and gameplay. With Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis on Unreal Engine 5, in particular, Lara Croft dual-wielding handguns and battling dinosaurs should be more spectacular than ever.
If stars truly have aligned in the series’ favor, perhaps Crystal Dynamics, Flying Wild Hog, and Amazon Game Studios’ new Tomb Raider remake will launch near Tomb Raider’s actual anniversary date of October 24, 2026. This could give it the rest of the year to polish the game before a fall 2026 release, assuming no delays push it back.
Legacy Of Atlantis Is A Whole New Era In The Making
Tomb Raider has two on the horizon: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider, scheduled for release later this year, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a new game following Tomb Raider: Underworld, scheduled for release in 2027. As such, a launch schedule this tight indicates that 2026 will be pivotal to the momentum of this new Tomb Raider era.
It seems as if these release windows are already nailed down quite confidently if back-to-back Tomb Raider games are being committed to, as Tomb Raider: Catalyst had no obligation to announce a release window as early as it has if it didn’t think it could release sometime next year. Either way, if Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis can hit its release window and launch in 2026, then there will be many reasons this year to celebrate Tomb Raider.
