Netflix will welcome a new Western TV show in December that might be a secret Sons of Anarchy prequel. Netflix continues to be one of the biggest and most popular streaming platforms despite there being a lot more competition now, and a big part of its success is that it adds new licensed and original content every week.
Netflix has stood out for its original content, some of which have made it to the list of the best TV shows of all time. December will see an interesting variety of original TV shows arriving on Netflix, among them a new Western action drama titled The Abandons – and it might be the closest there will be to a Sons of Anarchy prequel.

In 2008, Kurt Sutter brought the action crime drama TV series Sons of Anarchy, and he’s now back with a new show over at Netflix. As mentioned above, The Abandons is a Western action drama TV show, and it will take the audience back to the 1850s, to follow the conflicts of outlaw groups in the Old West.
At the front and center of The Abandons is Fiona Nolan (Lena Headey), a devout Irish woman who can’t conceive a child, but finds the best way to build a family. Nolan adopts four orphans, but their lives are only about to get more complicated, as Fiona finds herself going against European aristocrats, specifically the Van Ness family.
Leading the family is the ruthless Constance Van Ness (Gillian Anderson), who claims possession of Fiona’s recently acquired home in Oregon. While Fiona goes to great lengths to protect her family and their home, Constance knows no limits when it comes to getting what she wants.
The Abandons faced some problems during production as Sutter left the show a few weeks before filming ended, but the show finished shooting with a new executive producer and director. Now, while it might seem like The Abandons and Sons of Anarchy have nothing in common aside from their creator, the former has two characters who might be linked to the latter’s Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam).
How The Abandons’ Teller Characters Could Link To Sons of Anarchy
Ryan Hurst and Nick Robinson in Netflix's The Abandons
Accompanying Fiona, her children, and the Van Ness family are Elias (Nick Robinson) and Dahlia Teller (Diana Silvers). At the time of writing, it’s unknown what their role in The Abandons is and if they are related to Sons of Anarchy’s J.T. and Jax Teller, but the premise of the show might give an idea of how they connect to the show.
Ryan Hurst, who played Jax's best friend, Opie Winston, in Sons of Anarchy, is also part of the cast of The Abandons.
It’s understood that the Tellers in The Abandons are outlaws, very much like J.T. and Jax in Sons of Anarchy, but it’s to be seen what their role in their community is. The Tellers from the Old West could defend their community like the Tellers from SAMCRO do, establishing the family as outlaws who always look after their people.
The Old West Tellers could be greatly influential figures in J.T.’s life, inspiring Jax’s father to create SAMCRO to carry on his family’s legacy in a different way. Of course, it could also be just Sutter’s way to pay tribute to Jax and Sons of Anarchy, but it’s unlikely that would happen without a stronger connection, as both shows focus on the conflicts between outlaw groups.
