As The Brave and The Bold is still in the works at DC Studios, James Gunn elaborates on the key aspects the DC Universe has to get right about the new Batman. One of the most highly anticipated projects in the DCU's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" slate is Bruce Wayne's upcoming film in Gunn's shared franchise.
While his solo movie is still being developed, Gunn was recently asked on Threads by @ReelAnarchy if the DC Studios co-CEO has considered making Batman's cowl similar to Deadpool's by making it animated. Gunn gave the following response:

The Superman director stated, "The most requested thing would be the blue and grey," referring to how many have asked him if he will use one of the favorite suits for Batman in the DCU. He went on to say, "Then the yellow around the bat. And THEN the white eyes."
However, Gunn stressed that, "But all of those things I find less important than the character himself, the writing, and the person who plays him." While Batman hasn't been cast yet in the franchise, the Dark Knight appeared through Creature Commandos in a cameo, giving audience members a taste of this world's iteration of the Gotham City crime-fighter.
Andy Muschietti is set to direct The Brave and The Bold movie, as the script is still being written. While a screenwriter is attached, Gunn has yet to reveal who it actually is, but has commented that things are moving in the right direction.
During an interview on the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast back in September 2025, he stated, "What matters is the character, the story. and I think we have a really really good story now for what's happening with Batman." Even though The Brave and The Bold may be a few years away, an upcoming DCU movie is exploring Gotham City in 2026, but with a catch.
The R-rated Clayface horror movie will bring one of Batman's most famous villains to the big screen, which is confirmed to be taking place in the iconic hero's city. Whether or not there will be any foreshadowing of the DC icon remains to be seen.
The Brave and The Bold has not received a release date from DC Studios.
