Everything is not coming up Jubal Valentine in the upcoming seventh episode of FBI Season 8. Titled "Fadeaway," next week's installment will finally answer who will take the place of Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza) once she accepts her position as Assistant Director in Charge. When the promotion was first offered to her in Episode 3, Jeremy Sisto's ASAC threw his hat in the ring to take Isobel's job if she left, though none of the higher-ups seemed interested in even considering him as an option, even after stepping up as leader during her health complications and despite her initial decision. Now, Collider can share an exclusive sneak peek that sees Isobel preparing to tell the candidates her answer, until the current AD rudely steps in.
Immediately, AD Leo Ropac (Clark Carmichael) reveals the name and praises Isobel for picking a worthy successor. Sadly, that name is not Valentine, but rather Miller, and it sounds like she arrived at that choice more under pressure from the higher-ups than of her own volition. All that's left is to set a chain of command, though that's until Isobel reveals she hasn't broken the news to Jubal yet. Although she planned to inform all the candidates of her decision that afternoon, Ropac takes it upon himself to get it over with right away, calling Jubal into the office immediately. He tells him pretty bluntly that they've decided to go in a different direction, adding that he's sure he'll understand. It's all so fast that Jubal barely gets to process it before a call comes in, and he has to respond. However, he doesn't get to leave before Ropac gets in one final backhanded compliment, telling Jubal he's "exactly where you need to be."
The news that Jubal won't be moving up the chain will bring a bit of drama to the office. After all, Isobel never opened up to him about the fact that the folks upstairs don't see him as worthy of being an SAC. They still mistrust his judgment, whether because of his relapse with alcohol addiction in Season 5 or, more recently, his misuse of authority to get his son out of prison in Season 7. Ever since he expressed interest in the position, Isobel understood that whatever decision was made, barring some change of heart, was going to create tension with the agent, who had mostly done his level best working out of the New York City field office. The question remains how, or if, the dynamic among the team will change if Isobel does indeed take the promotion and a new character enters in her place.
The Team Faces an Explosive New Case in 'FBI' Season 8, Episode 7
Outside of Isobel's decision, FBI's latest episode will see the agents caught in a dangerous new case after a large-scale explosion shakes a Brooklyn apartment complex to its core. It doesn't take long to find the perpetrator, but things become a bit more complicated when they discover he's operating on behalf of a convicted felon currently behind bars. After "Fadeaway," only a two-part holiday midseason finale remains on December 15 that will bring chaos around New York and again see Jubal at the center of it all. What starts as an investigation into three slain sex workers in the episode "Lone Wolf" will turn into a scramble to stop a wider plot and find the culprits as cell services, internet, and emergency services are disrupted in "Wolf Pack." As early images showed, Maggie (Missy Peregrym), OA (Zeeko Zaki), Scola (John Boyd), and the newcomer Ramos (Juliana Aidén Martinez) will also be at the forefront of the hunt to save the day.
FBI Season 8, Episode 7 premieres on December 1 on CBS. Check out our exclusive sneak peek in the player above.
