A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.

Vince Gilligan has a third hit series on his hands following the debut of his AppleTV science fiction mind-bender Pluribus. However, it was a long road to actually titling the series. In a recent panel appearance at New York Comic Con moderated by Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz, Gilligan revealed that the series went through a litany of potential titles before settling on its current moniker. According to Gilligan, "We were in a title desert for two or three years." Understandably, the series' science fiction high-concept is difficult to sum up in a single word or phrase, meaning that some truly dire titles were suggested in the planning stage.
The worst one, according to Gilligan? Be Kind, Rewind. Understandably, that one went in the reject pile, and not just because viewers would tune in expecting Jack Black and Mod Def running a video store. Ultimately, the team settled on Pluribus, which is Latin for "from many," which aligns nicely with the themes of the show. Gilligan notes that Breaking Bad (which was derived from a Southern colloquialism, albeit one that Virginia-born Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn had never heard of) and Better Call Saul (which was named after the character's catchphrase and the Breaking Bad episode that introduced him) were much easier to name.
What Is 'Pluribus' About?
When a mysterious signal from deep space is detected on Earth, scientists decode it into a viral RNA sequence. One lab accident later, and the entire world is infected with the mysterious alien ailment; the resulting chaos kills millions, including Helen (Miriam Shor), the professional and romantic partner of Carol Sturka (Seehorn), a successful but disaffected romance novelist. The virus transforms the entire population of Earth into a global hive mind, save for a small handful of people...one of whom is Carol. Now, the hive mind attempts to cater to Carol's every whim to win her favor, including providing her with a companion, Zosia (Karolina Wydra), who bears a striking resemblance to the main character of Carol's novels. Complicating matters, the hive mind has the memories of everyone on Earth...including Helen, who was infected before her death.
Pluribus is attracting rave reviews, suggesting that the much-anticipated series was worth the wait. In her review, Collider's Carly Lane called it an absolute science fiction masterpiece that manages to be "unnerving, hilarious, heartbreaking, and always unexpected."
