The highly anticipated comedy-drama film, The Devil Wears Prada 2, just released a new trailer.
Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt unite once more to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel to the 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada. This time around, Miranda Priestly (Streep) struggles as traditional print media dwindles. At the same time, she has to deal with her rival, Emily Charlton (Blunt), who is now the executive of a luxury fashion brand, and will more than likely rub her success in her former boss' face.
Check out the trailer below:
The trailer offers a clearer look at how the characters have evolved. The preview shows Andy (Hathaway) reconnecting with Emily, who worked at Runway magazine at the same time as she did. And, the self-centered Miranda didn't even remember any of it, asking Nigel (Tucci) where she was within that chapter of their lives.
Before the debut of The Devil Wears Prada 2's trailer, Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci shared their thoughts about returning to the dramatic world of fashion and reprising their roles with Vogue. Streep said it was like going through her closet and finding something she hadn't seen in a while.
It was like going into the back of your own closet and finding something, thinking, Oh, I wonder if this still fits?
Blunt stated that she was excited to return. She said that she felt like she was going back home. The actor jokingly added that she was concerned by how easy it was to step back into the shoes of Emily, whom she described as a "lunatic." She also mentioned how seeing Tucci on set made it feel even more like home because he married her sister.
It felt a lot like coming home, especially because Stanley Tucci is now… literally my home. It’s incredible what this film has brought us all. This character seems to be the glove that fits rather too easily for me. She’s a lunatic. Maybe I should question myself on that: why it seems so easy to step back into her.
Hathaway, on the other hand, said that the experience opened several "portals" for her. She explained how it was surreal to be back in the shoes of her character walking behind Streep. The actor added that she was glad her co-star didn't stay in character the entire time they were on set.
Meryl, as Miranda, had started down the hallway ahead of me—I was maybe 50 feet behind her—and seeing her from the back was practically psychedelic. I just felt so many portals open up at that moment. I was 22 again, but it was still now. Thankfully, this time, she didn’t stay in character the entire time, so we had a lot of laughs.
Tucci explained how Nigel never truly left him. He said that he was always a part of who he is as a person and that it felt great to finally release the character once again instead of keeping him buried.
Nigel must’ve been always hiding away inside me. There was a good deal of Nigel in me, and so I was just able to let it all out again. But, especially in this film, the costumes are so integral to the character.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will release in theaters on May 1, 2026.
