Apple TV has acquired the rights to an incredible fantasy franchise, which could be streaming's next big giant and even give HBO a run for its money.

When it comes to sci-fi, Apple TV is easily among the biggest players in the streaming space right now with incredible small-screen offerings like Silo, Foundation, and Severance. Although Apple TV is yet to find its footing in other genres, it is gradually building a solid, well-rounded library. The streaming service has also taken one massive step towards leveling up its fantasy game by gaining the rights to an incredible author's works.

This step paves the way for Apple TV to soon reign supreme in another genre if everything falls into place.

Apple TV Has Picked Up Brandon Sanderson’s “Cosmere” Universe For Both TV & Movie Adaptations

Apple TV has officially acquired the rights to Brandon Sanderson's "Cosmere" universe. According to reports, the streaming service plans to make a TV adaptation out of Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive books and develop a movie series for the Mistborn books. This is a big deal for Apple TV since Sanderson has previously been very careful about giving away rights to his works.

The fantasy author agreed to this deal because Apple TV has given him unprecedented control over the franchise. As reports confirm, the level of control he will get over the franchise's creative decisions will be far greater than what most authors typically receive.

Even authors like J.K. Rowling and George R.R. Martin did not get the same level of control over their respective franchises.

Most other details surrounding this deal and its future implications remain under the wraps. However, from the looks of it, Apple TV's take on the "Cosmere" universe already looks quite promising.

Sanderson’s Involvement With The Adaptations Can Make Them The Next Big Movie & TV Fantasy Franchises

With Sanderson so closely involved with the franchise, it is almost guaranteed to succeed. Apple TV does not have a long history of fantasy adaptations. However, the streaming service's track record with sci-fi book adaptations like Silo and Foundation proves that it can handle large-scale adaptations like Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive.

Sanderson is also known for being one of the most prolific authors of our time. He consistently churns out one book after another, which would allow the show to always have enough source material content for future installments.

A lot seems to be going in Apple TV's favor in this new fantasy franchise acquisition. If all goes well, the streaming service could have one of the best fantasy giants under its belt, which could even rival Game of Thrones and Harry Potter.
