Give me a lighthearted recap
For the first time in several weeks, the same series has topped the U.S. Netflix charts, as The Beast in Me, a mystery series starring Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys, claims the throne for the second weekend in a row. For 11 days, showrunner Howard Gordon's psychological thriller may have been met with critical backlash, but nothing can take away from its impressive viewing figures as it continues to outperform the likes of the historical thriller Death by Lightning and the inevitable waves of people re-watching Stranger Things ahead of its new season. With that in mind, and with there being plenty more to love on the streamer, here are three shows you should give a try on Netflix this week.

3 'Absentia' (2017–2020)
Rotten Tomatoes: 75% | IMDb: 7.2/10
One of the best aspects of the rise of streaming sites is the chance it offers those shows cruelly canceled before their time to find love from new audiences on a different platform. That's exactly what has happened to the Stana Katic-led Absentia, a thriller that was canceled by Prime Video back in 2020 and has now found great success on Netflix, becoming one of the most-watched shows on the platform this November.
Absentia follows FBI Special Agent Emily Byrne (Katic) as she returns home after being presumed dead for six years. However, with her family seemingly having moved on and a series of murders following her, Emily's return is anything but euphoric. Packed with twists and turns, this refreshing mystery is emotionally demanding and warrants your full attention.
2 'Last Samurai Standing' (2025)
Rotten Tomatoes: 100% | IMDb: 7.6/10
Fans of Squid Game, this one's for you. The new Japanese original series Last Samurai Standing, based on a novel written by Shogo Imamura, follows a battle royale taking place in 1878 Tokyo, with samurai all fighting to the death for a huge cash prize. With their lives on the line and the chance for many to save their families from poverty, just how far will these warriors go?
Boasting compelling action, high drama, and a perfect leading performance from Jun'ichi Okada, Last Samurai Standing is one of the best Netflix shows of the year. In his review of the series, which boasts a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, Collider's Jeff Ewing wrote that the series was "an exceptional all-timer in the realm of action television thanks to a unique historical premise and world-class stunt work." Don't miss out.
1 'Homeland' (2011–2020)
Rotten Tomatoes: 85% | IMDb: 8.3/10
One of the best shows of the 2010s has recently made its way to Netflix and is already impacting the streamer's top 10 ranks. The espionage thriller series Homeland, based on Gideon Raff’s series Prisoners of War, follows the duo of Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) and CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) as they navigate lies, deception, and romance with the fate of their nation in their hands.
From gripping storylines to star-studded ensemble performances, including from the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Pedro Pascal, and Hugh Dancy, Homeland has something for everyone. Packed with thrills and boasting perhaps the best performances in the careers of both Lewis and Danes, Homeland deserves each of its eight Primetime Emmys, as well as your attention this week.
