New images have been released from the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Set a century before HBO's flagship TV show, based on George R. R. Martin's writing, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the adventures of Ser Duncan "Dunk" the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire, the young Prince Aegon "Egg" Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell).
The latest images from the TV show reveal more of some of the previously seen main characters, as well as the first look at other members of the Targaryen family tree who appear in this era. This includes Egg's father, Prince Maekar Targaryen (played by Sam Spruell, seen riding on horseback), and Maekar's brother, Prince Baelor (Bertie Carvel, seated at a table).
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is slated to premiere on January 18, 2026. Check out the new images from the show below:
Die-hard fans might catch that Baelor is wearing the pin that belongs to the Hand of the King, as he is currently fulfilling this role while his father is king. Another image of Maekar's older son, Prince Aerion (Finn Bennett), has also been revealed (he is also on horseback, possibly in the same scene as Maekar). HBO and WBD also highlight characters besides the Targaryens.
This includes Lord Lyonel Baratheon (Daniel Ings), Ser Raymon Fossoway (Shaun Thomas), and Tanselle (Tanzyn Crawford), bringing more stories from Martin's lore to life. Since Game of Thrones' disappointing final season, the franchise has made a comeback with rich prequel stories, filled with exceptional actors playing these new characters.
While A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is already renewed for season 2, House of the Dragon season 3 will also debut sometime in 2026, and is set for season 4. The first critically acclaimed Game of Thrones prequel is set generations before A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and depicts a brutal civil war amid the Targaryen family over a succession dispute.

Martin also shared that a sequel to Game of Thrones is in development, which will perhaps be the most challenging project yet. While House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have the benefit of completed source material, a chronological follow-up would have to develop a new story that comes back from widely disliked plot points.
Clearly, Game of Thrones remains one of HBO's biggest properties, and they will continue to expand the TV universe as long as it continues to be critically acclaimed and profitable. Despite the skepticism fans may be feeling about a direct continuation, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms promises to be a refreshing show that lives up to its predecessors.
