While very little is known about what will happen in The Batman Part II, one Netflix project from 2017 could provide a glimpse at how the upcoming film will look. One of the most compelling and engaging elements of The Batman was the way the visuals came across throughout the film.
The photography and staging of scenes created an immersive and expansive world with Gotham being brought to life in a way that has never been quite so clear or so captivating. And that was down to the incredible work of Greig Fraser, the director of photography.
Prior to working on The Batman, Fraser worked on films like Zero Dark Thirty, Rogue One , and Dune: Part One. Since The Batman was released, Fraser has gone on to work on The Creator, and Dune: Part Two, all of which contain stunning visuals. But he won't be returning for The Batman Part II.

Unfortunately, Fraser will not be returning as the director of photography for The Batman Part II, but his replacement, Erik Messerschmidt, has already proven himself to be a more than capable substitute, and one of his most defining contributions is contained in the hit Netflix series, Mindhunter.
Mindhunter is a series based on a 1995 true crime novel, with the series being created by Joe Penhall, and recruiting the legendary director and storyteller, David Fincher, as the showrunner and most frequent director on the show. And the results speak for themselves, with the series earning an astonishing 97% critic score and 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Mindhunter's Cinematography Is A Masterpiece On Its Own

While the story of this crime series, based on true events, is a marvel on its own, along with the performance of the leading actors such as Jonathan Groff, the show also boasts stunning visuals at every turn. Every scene feels intentional, the framing complements every beat, and even the most mundane moments feel spectacular thanks to Messerschmidt's keen eye for capturing the beauty in every scene.
Messerschmidt has also won an Oscar for his cinematography work, with his contributions to the film Mank earning him the honor in 2021. Evidently, while the loss of Greig Fraser is certainly going to make some sort of impression on The Batman Part II, Messerschmidt's reputation speaks for itself.
For anyone uncertain that Messerschmidt can adequately recapture the visual magic of The Batman for the sequel, I would highly encourage you to go and watch Mindhunter, both because the show is a masterpiece, but also because watching it provides a remarkable insight into what can be expected when The Batman Part II finally arrives on the big screen in 2027.
