Good Omens star Michael Sheen has shared his reaction to a screening of the show's final episode in an emotional social media post. Good Omens, starring Sheen and David Tennant as the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, respectively, is based on the fantasy book of the same name co-authored by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It premiered on Prime Video in 2019 to critical acclaim, accumulating a devoted fanbase along the way.
Following their successful attempt to thwart a biblical Armageddon, Good Omens season 2 followed Aziraphale and Crowley as they teamed up once more to help the amnesiac archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) remember why he arrived on Aziraphale's bookshop doorstep in the nude. Meanwhile, Aziraphale and Crowley's eons-long connection developed into something deeper and more romantic, as they shared a heated kiss near the end of the season.
Now, as anticipation for the feature-length Good Omens finale episode grows online, Michael Sheen has given eager audiences a hint of what to expect. "We had a screening last night. I laughed and I cried. There'll be bits you absolutely love and there'll be things you'll argue about of course," the actor wrote on X on December 2, in response to a fan's question about screening rumors.
Sheen continued, "It should have been 6 episodes but it's not. Thank God for what it is. Brilliantly directed, beautiful performances, fantastic new looks, incredible work all around. And there's nightingales." Check out Sheen's post below.
Despite Good Omens' stellar cast, Emmy nominations, and solid ratings, season 3 will consist of only one last 90-minute episode, rather than a full six-episode season. This major change was made after multiple allegations of sexual assault against show creator Neil Gaiman came to light in 2024. Gaiman has strongly denied the allegations.
The author and his production company, The Blank Corporation, were not involved in the production of the show's final episode. Gaiman's ideas did contribute to the episode's script, however, though another writer was expected to be brought on to complete the writing, as reported by Deadline in October 2024.
In August, executive producer Josh Cole, now the head of BBC Studios Fiction, revealed that post-production on the final Good Omens installment was almost complete and that he expected Good Omens season 3 to premiere on Prime Video in 2026. Sheen's post echoes what Cole has previously said about the circumstances surrounding the finale.
“I’m proud of everyone who worked hard on Season 3 in incredibly difficult circumstances. Knowing what Good Omens means to the fandom really drove us forward and the finale is very much for them,” Cole explained.
Similarly, Tennant shared on the ITV program The Assembly earlier this year that he was pleased that "We still get to tell that story, which I think it would have been very difficult to leave it on a cliffhanger. So I'm glad that's been worked out."
Plot details about the Good Omens finale are being kept tightly under wraps, but if Sheen's recent post is anything to go by, the show's last episode will provide an emotional farewell for this beloved angel and demon duo.
Good Omens season 3 is expected to premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
