By Maria Azzurra VolpeShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIn a viral TikTok video, a dog owner from Toronto revealed what her pup, who is not allowed to sleep on the couch, does every time she’s out, and internet users can't cope with it.
The hilarious video, shared on Saturday under the username @alessiasculpt, shows the poster peeking into her home from outside the window as she comes back from work, only to see her pup trying to outsmart her.
“My dog is not allowed on the couch. And yet this is what I come home to every night," the caption says, as the clip shows the pup lying down right on the couch, taking the most comfortable nap while his owners aren’t home to tell him off.
The poster, 34-year-old Alessia, told Newsweek that Teddy knows he’s not allowed on the couch, and he never gets up there while they’re home.
...“But every time my fiancé and I come home from work/etc, he's sleeping peacefully on the couch waiting for us to come back,” she said.
“We had to start putting down a blanket once we realized what he was doing, as our couch is crisp white. And once we get home, he jumps off, wagging his tail, and pretends nothing is wrong. He's a standard poodle—very smart dog and knows what he's doing.”
Poodles are known for being intelligent dogs, and according to Countryside Vets they are actually the third most intelligent breed out there. They highlight five dog breeds as especially smart, sharing traits like high trainability, loyalty and agility.
Topping the list is the border collie—an agile, energetic breed with intense focus that excels at herding and needs lots of physical and mental stimulation to stay content.
The German shepherd stands out for its protective instincts, versatility and ability to learn complex tasks, making it a dependable working or family dog.
The poodle—whether standard, miniature or toy—remains a top pick for obedience and agility lovers, noted for its smarts and graceful athleticism.
The Australian shepherd gains praise for its work-oriented nature, versatility and quick learning, thriving when trained or given tasks.
Finally, the golden retriever earns its place thanks to its friendly, affectionate personality, strong trainability and suitability as a loyal family pet.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 355,700 views and 24,400 likes on the platform.
One user, Bridget, commented: “He’s on the blanket on the couch, not couch directly—loophole.”
All said: “Sorry to break it to you but that’s his couch that he lets you use.”
Piña wrote: “Couldn’t be my house my dogs have their own furniture that people aren’t allowed to use.”
