The most controversial story arc in Spider-Man's history is about to return in Ultimate Spider-Man. Marvel made the unfortunate decision to end Ultimate Spider-Man, and now the comic's final story is calling back to a divisive moment most Spider-Man fans want to forget.
League of Comic Geeks has information on Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 4 by Jonathan Hickman. The trade paperback has the curious subtitle of One Last Day, which brings back memories of the controversial Spider-Man story arc "One More Day" that ended Spider-Man and Mary Jane's marriage.
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 4: One Last Day collects Ultimate Spider-Man #19-24, the final six issues of the fan-favorite comic that has been one of the many highlights of Marvel's new Ultimate Universe. Spider-Man goes out with a bang as he has to deal with infighting inside the Sinister Six.
What "One More Day" Could Mean For The Ending Of Ultimate Spider-Man

Jonathan Hickman deciding to end Ultimate Spider-Man with a story that potentially ties back to "One More Day" is sure to give it even more attention than it was probably already going to get. Marvel announced the end of Ultimate Spider-Man and the rest of the Ultimate Universe at New York Comic Con in October.
While fans may believe that Ultimate Spider-Man could survive in some form or fashion, Marvel hasn't indicated that this is the case. So if we take One Last Day at face value, it may serve as the perfect capstone to Ultimate Spider-Man's larger story.
What better way to conclude the story of a married Spider-Man than by addressing the possibility that his marriage to Mary Jane could go up in smoke yet? Anytime someone brings up "One More Day" it results in anger and heated debates. But if anyone should be trusted with Spider-Man and his marriage, it's celebrated writer Jonathan Hickman.
Marvel Needs To Move On From Spider-Man's "One More Day"
Fans Want Spider-Man And Mary Jane To Stay Together
Marvel can't help but continuously go back to the well that is "One More Day" when it comes to Spider-Man. It's a guaranteed way to get a reaction out of the Spidey fanbase, but there is a danger in overusing it.
The fans have been loving the idea of Spider-Man and Mary Jane being married again, with their relationship being one of the highlights of Ultimate Spider-Man. There is already sadness over Ultimate Spider-Man ending, and now fans have to worry about what will happen between Spidey and MJ.
The nod to "One More Day" brings an extra level of tension to Ultimate Spider-Man's final issues, but the comic is already one of Marvel's bestsellers. It doesn't have to resort to cheap gimmicks to drive sales.
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 4: One Last Day goes on sale May 12, 2026 from Marvel Comics.
