On Saturday night the USC football team defeated rival UCLA 29-10 at the Coliseum. Prior to the game, I gave five predictions for the contest.

How did my picks fare? Let’s take a look back at them and see.

Another batch of Lemonade

"USC wide receiver Makai Lemon leads the Power Four in receiving and is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award. Against UCLA, he makes a final Biletnikoff statement, going over 100 receiving yards once again."

Lemon caught just one pass against UCLA, although it did go for a 32-yard touchdown. Of course, I had no idea that he would be suspended for the first quarter for a violation of team policy, according to head coach Lincoln Riley.

Picking it off

"It is still up in the air who will start at quarterback for UCLA Saturday evening, but none of the Bruins’ signal callers have been anything special this season. The Trojans’ defense records at least one interception."

Nico Iamaleava started at quarterback for UCLA, and while his performance was not anything particularly special, he did not throw any interceptions.

Ground and pound

"USC struggled mightily to run the ball against Oregon, but UCLA’s defense is nowhere near as talented or physical as the Ducks’. The Trojans rush for over 120 yards."

USC rushed the ball for 131 yards and two touchdowns. The vast majority of that was done by King Miller, who had 124 yards and both scores on just 17 carries.

Kicking it

"Last week, USC kicker Ryon Sayeri had just his second missed field goal of the season. He does not repeat that this week, and is perfect on field goal attempts."

Yikes. Sayeri missed both of his field goal attempts, both of which were under 40 yards. I guess you all can blame me for this one.

No holiday spread

"The Trojans are the better football team, but the current line of 21.5 points is simply too big. USC wins the football game, but UCLA covers the spread."

USC won by 19 points. A hit!

Overall performance

I closed out the regular season with an ugly two-for-five performance. That kicking prediction in particular might be my worst one of the entire season—which is saying something.

This one is going to leave a sour taste in my mouth for a while. I will need a strong bounce-back performance in the bowl game in order to avoid going into the offseason on a low note.
