While South Park season 28, episode 4 was mostly focused on mocking the Trump administration, the show still found time to address one iconic long-running plot that was seemingly forgotten after season 27. South Park season 28 finally ended a 12-year trend with episode 4, “Turkey Trot,” which marked the show’s first Thanksgiving special since 2013.
Although South Park’s earlier seasons included numerous Thanksgiving episodes, the show’s recent seasons missed the holiday due to their airdates. Seasons 25 and 26 were released between February and April, meaning there was no opportunity for a Thanksgiving outing. Before that, seasons 22, 23, and 24 featured Halloween and Christmas specials, but not Thanksgiving episodes.
Now, although South Park season 28 introduced longer breaks between episodes, this gave the show the opportunity to offer viewers two Halloween episodes in October and a Thanksgiving episode in November. What’s more, “Turkey Trot” also paid off a storyline that had been seven years in the making after season 27 briefly mentioned its unexpected end.
South Park Season 28 “Turkey Trot” Addresses The End of Tegridy Farms
Randy first set up his marijuana farm, Tegridy Farms, back in season 22, episode 4, “Tegridy Farms.” This business, which he ran with Towelie, sold organic marijuana and, at one point, cocaine, to the people of South Park. The farm was also a thinly veiled excuse to make Randy the show’s main character.
Throughout the following six seasons and seven feature-length South Park specials on Paramount+, Randy gradually became the show’s main character as he tried all manner of absurd stunts to keep his business afloat. From starting an OnlyFans account to trying to get high on Ozempic, Randy was the show’s de facto main character for seven years.
However, that changed with season 27, episode 3, “Sickofancy,” when Randy shut down the farm, and his associate Towelie got trapped in the White House with Satan and Donald Trump. This twist brought the longstanding story to an abrupt end, and subsequent episodes returned their focus to the show’s original main characters, Butters, Kenny, Kyle, Cartman, and Stan.
In “Turkey Trot,” season 28 finally brought up the end of the Tegridy Farms, but, luckily, the entire episode didn’t center on the storyline. Early on, Randy says his family has fallen on hard times since he sold the farm, and thus, he hopes to win the titular Thanksgiving Turkey Trot race so he can get the $5,000 prize money.
South Park Season 28’s Biggest Abandoned Storyline Ended A 7-Year Streak

In the episode’s opening scene, South Park’s mayor bemoans the fact that the town’s businesses are failing and, as a result, no one can afford to sponsor the annual Thanksgiving race. It is then that Randy mentions his financial struggles and, when Saudi Arabia provides the prize money, he is quick to join the race.
In season 28, episode 4, even the infamously heartless Cartman alludes to the Marsh family’s financial struggles when he attempts to convince Tolkien to join his team for the race. He notes that Stan’s family is now without a home since selling the farm, and the winnings could make a big difference in their lives.
Somehow, the Tegridy Farms plot lasted from 2018 until 2025, even though the show noted how tired the storyline had become back in 2022’s The Streaming Wars: Part 2. That special featured a musical number that bemoaned Randy’s transformation from a mild-mannered suburban geologist into an absurdly zany, drug-addled goofball.
Still, three years later, Randy was micro-dosing ketamine and breaking into ICE facilities with Towelie in tow, all as part of a desperate ploy to keep his marijuana farm open. This made it something of a relief when “Sickofancy” ended this lengthy plot line, as it freed up more screen time for the show’s original heroes.
South Park Season 28 Episode 4 Explained The Marsh Family’s Future
That said, it was still jarring for the show to leave the family’s financial future a mystery. While South Park season 28’s anti-AI satire was undeniably funny, Randy’s choice to abandon ChatGPT, Towelie, and Tegridy Farms in “Sickofancy” was a little abrupt, and it was unclear how his family would cope with the aftermath.
As such, it was a clever move to focus on the Marsh family's struggles at the end of “Turkey Trot.” Thanks to Cartman’s scheming, an annoyed Tolkien ended up accidentally winning the titular race, and Stan’s family won a share of the prize money as a result. This explains how the Marsh family will stay afloat until the end of season 28.
Although South Park season 1’s humor was infamously random, gross, and absurd, the show has started taking its characters and their lives more seriously over the years. The series is still one of the silliest shows on TV, but it is now rare for major life events to happen and end up immediately retconned in the next episode.
Whether it is Cartman being kidnapped by Peter Thiel or Donald Trump’s affair with JD Vance, South Park season 28 has a storyline that is, at the very least, internally consistent. As such, it was fun to see the show explain how the Tegridy Farms fallout was handled, without South Park feeling the need to dive right back into the divisive plot.

Do you think it was the right decision for South Park to finally address and resolve the long-running Tegridy Farms plotline in season 28, or should they have ended it sooner?

Some fans may feel that the Tegridy Farms storyline ran its course and are glad the show finally wrapped it up, allowing more focus on the original main characters. Others might argue that the plot could have been resolved sooner, as it dominated too much of the show's recent seasons. The decision to address it in season 28 provides closure while not dwelling on it too long.
