In scoring a pair of touchdowns on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, former Green Bay Packers receiver and current Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams broke a unique single season record once set by a former Packers Pro Bowler and also tied a former Packers Hall of Famer in the top 10 of another unique stat.

A second-round pick of the Packers in 2014 who played eight years in Green Bay, Adams continues building his Hall of Fame resume.

First, the record breaker. Adams caught touchdown passes of 4 yards and 7 yards against the Panthers. According to Dante Koplowitz-Fleming of NFL Research, Adams not only broke Jerry Rice's record for touchdown catches inside the 10-yard line in a career (Adams has 60, Rice previously set the record at 58), but the former Packer now has nine touchdown catches inside the 5-yard line this season, breaking the single season record once set by Packers tight end Bubba Franks in 2001 and later tied by Randy Moss in 2004.

In 2001, Franks caught eight touchdown passes inside the 5-yard line (his ninth touchdown catch of the season was a 6-yarder), helping him make the Pro Bowl for the first time. In fact, six of Franks' nine touchdowns were from two yards out or closer as Brett Favre and the Packers consistently used run fakes to Ahman Green to set up easy touchdown passes into the end zone.

More history for Adams, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, was made on Sunday.

With two touchdowns, Adams tied Hall of Famer Don Huston for the sixth-most games with at least two touchdown catches at 28. He needs one more game to tied Cris Carter and Marvin Harrison for the fourth most all time. Rice has the record at 44.

Adams' second touchdown catch on Sunday was the 117th of his career and allowed him to surpass Antonio Gates for seventh all-time. He needs four more to catch Larry Fitzgerald for sixth all-time.

TD catches leaders, NFL history

  1. Jerry Rice, 197

  2. Randy Moss, 156

  3. Terrell Owens, 153

  4. Cris Carter, 130

  5. Marvin Harrison, 128

  6. Larry Fitzgerald, 121

  7. Davante Adams, 117

Adams leads the NFL with 14 touchdown catches through 13 weeks. This is the third time he's reached at least 14 touchdown catches (the first coming with the Packers in 2020), and he's one of just five players to catch at least 14 scores in a season three times in a career, joining Rice, Moss, Owens and Harrison.

Adams caught 73 touchdown passes over eight seasons in Green Bay. He has 44 in the five seasons since leaving the Packers.
