This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available. It's almost time to head back to the idyllic English town of Sanctuary. AMC+ has debuted the official trailer for Season 2 of Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale, confirming that the fantastical mystery series based on the novel by V.V. James will be back with a harrowing new investigation starting on Christmas Day, December 25. The stakes are higher than ever for Sarah Fenn (Elaine Cassidy) and her daughter Harper (Hazel Doupe), too, in the aftermath of the witch hunt that sent the pair running for their lives to Scotland. Upon their return to their home, there is a new murder afoot and rising tensions within the titular town that threaten both mother and daughter, as well as their magic.
Picking up a full year after the events of Season 1, the trailer shows that, despite being exonerated for their misuse of magic, the public has remained in a frenzy since Sarah and Harper's near-hanging. Word got out about the incident, and now anti-witch protests have spread across the U.K. and endangered the existence of magic and its users everywhere in the country. Despite all the outrage, the mother-daughter duo is determined to head back to their home, where things have become even more grim following another murder of the magical variety. So many within the town see the Fenns as a real danger, but this new case represents a potential opportunity to prove they are not to be feared and to protect the people from those who would misuse the dark arts. The tension escalates, and magical forces unite, teasing a season where spells will fly and Sarah will have to fight desperately to keep herself and Harper safe.
The footage also teases a potential dark path for Harper in Season 2 of Sanctuary. In the waning moments, the young magic user is conjuring something while her mother worriedly asks what she's done. Season 1 showed that she could use her abilities for more questionable means, conjuring a vision of Abigail's (Amy De Bhrún) son to lead her to leap to her death. Although her goal was merely to protect herself and her mother from the person responsible for leading the angry mob against them, it's an action that may have consequences that will follow her, especially once she returns to her home.
