Iron Man & Doctor Strange Die Gruesome Deaths in Marvel Zombies: Red Band

Two of the MCU's most famous Avengers suffer horrific deaths in Marvel's darkest timeline, highlighting a problem about their survival skills.

Two of Marvel's most powerful and intelligent heroes fall victims to a zombie virus in the most gruesome way possible. Multiple timelines in the Marvel multiverse have been infected by a zombie virus, and hundreds of famous heroes and villains have failed to contain it. Some characters simply don't stand a chance against a horde of the undead, while others are infected because they get caught off-guard.

In Marvel Zombies: Red Band, yet another Marvel timeline is invaded by zombies. This time, the world is vastly unprepared to face the inffected, as the age of heroes is only starting to take shape. Naturally, characters like Daredevil, Hawkeye, and Hobgoblin are among the first to turn. However, much stronger Marvel characters fail to escape the virus just the same.

It's difficult to choose only one death as the most gruesome in Marvel Zombies: Red Band, but Thor's graphic death at the hands of the Invisible Woman may have just been surpassed.

Iron Man seems to be safe among other heroes in space, only for the infected Jean Grey to survive Doctor Octopus' solar incinerator and spit the Phoenix Force's fire onto his face. Tony Stark's face is burned clean off, and some of Jean Grey's virus makes it into his system, turning him into a zombie. To add insult to injury, Jean bites into Stark's neck, leaving him voiceless.

Meanwhile, Doctor Strange's soul is discussing the virus with Wong. Strange then casually addresses his body, which is imprisoned in a magical cage, eating itself. Doctor Strange's infected body doesn't seem to be as beaten up as other characters', but just the fact that Strange is doomed to see his body eat itself is a nightmare scenario.

Marvel Zombies: Red Band presents some of the worst Marvel deaths in recent memory. Thor is crushed to death before getting infected, Uncle Ben and Aunt May are eaten alive as Peter Parker watches, and Jean Grey blasts Cyclops' head into pieces before he gets the chance to bite her. But so far, Iron Man's death may take the cake as the most gruesome.

Iron Man & Doctor Strange Somehow Tend To Fare Poorly Against Zombies

In Theory, Tony Stark And Stephen Strange Should Be Untouchable In A Zombie Invasion

A zombie Iron Man raises his arm to fire a blast in Marvel's What If...?

One would think that the heavily-armored Iron Man and the magically powerful Doctor Strange would be the final Marvel characters standing in a zombie invasion. In theory, Tony Stark should be able to stand in a crowd of zombies for hourse, immobile, and not get bitten. Likewise, Doctor Strange should be able to send all zombies around him far off into space almost automatically.

Yet, Stark and Strange rarely make it out alive in Marvel's zombie universes. Both of them were infected in Earth-2149, are introduced as zombies in the MCU's Marvel Zombies timeline, and now fail to escape the undead in Marvel Zombies: Red Band. Meanwhile, Spider-Man has outlived them almost every time. Despite their genius-level intellect, Iron Man and Doctor Strange seem to be unlucky when it comes to zombie universes.
