Similar to the CFP rankings, the NET rankings correlate directly to a team's postseason fate, as they're the rankings used to seed the NCAA Tournament in March. Thus, it is crucial for a team to fare well by these metrics.
On Monday, the first NET rankings of the season were released, and after a torrid streak in the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas last week, Michigan basketball ended up coming in ranked No. 1 for the first time, edging No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Purdue, and others. Rival MSU is ranked No. 10, Indiana is No. 11, Iowa is No. 16, USC is No. 20, and Illinois is No. 24.
