If there is one thing that the release of Ryan Coogler's Sinners has taught us, it's that vampire movies are back and as popular as ever. However, it's likely that the current success of Sinners and other similar vampiric tales wouldn't be possible without the global triumph of the Twilight franchise. Based on the novels written by Stephenie Meyer, which were recently celebrated with a 20th anniversary box office re-release, the Twilight franchise followed in the footsteps of The Lost Boys and rewrote the classic literary villain for a younger audience, equipped with a coming-of-age-esque tale and will-they/won't-they romance.

In light of the 20th anniversary celebrations, one of the franchise's movies is back in the streaming charts at the time of writing, with The Twilight Saga: New Moon officially one of the ten most-streamed movies on Pluto in the U.S. The second installment in the series, New Moon, saw Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson return fresh off the huge success of the first movie, ready to take the fandom to a whole new level. The film may have bombed with critics, earning an abysmal 28% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, but, more importantly, the fanbase proved much more receptive, almost tripling the critics' score on the same review site. For those yet to catch New Moon, here's a look at the film's synopsis:

"After the abrupt departure of Edward, her vampire love, Bella finds comfort in her deepening friendship with Jacob Black. However Bella's loyalties are put to the test as she becomes drawn into the world of werewolves, ancient enemies of vampires."

What Was the Highest-Grossing 'Twilight' Movie?

The Twilight franchise was a huge hit at the box office, but which proved the most successful? The first entry, most likely to perform the worst, earned a strong $403 million worldwide. New Moon blew this total out of the water with a $688 million global gross, setting in motion a standard the rest of the series would keep. Director David Slade's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse grossed just over $700 million, with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 grossing just under that same threshold. However, it was the final outing, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, that proved the most successful, earning a whopping $830 million worldwide, with the franchise totaling over $3 billion in box office revenue.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon is streaming now on Pluto.
