In a recent interview, the Morticia Addams actress suggested that an Emmy-winning actor should play Cousin Itt in the show's next installment, adding another big name to the show following Lady Gaga's appearance. Zeta-Jones suggested that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Danny DeVito should be cast as Cousin Itt, if showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar plan to expand the Addams Family in the next installment. The actress believes DeVito would be a great pick for the show's next guest star and wonders why he hasn't been included yet.
"I don't know how Danny DeVito hasn't been cast already. I was with him for our birthday in September, and I was like, 'Why isn't Danny DeVito in "Wednesday?' He's gonna kill me for that. He's like, 'Yeah, they're going to cast me and put hair all over my face. Thanks for suggesting that, Catherine. Imagine Danny DeVito as Cousin Itt? That'd be so cool."
Cousin Itt was introduced not by the original cartoonist but in the 1964 Addams Family television series, first appearing as someone with floor-length hair covering the entire body and speaking only gibberish, understood only by the Addams Family. While the character has yet to appear on Wednesday, one of his ancestors, Ignatius Itt, was seen through a portrait hung in Nevermore Academy. Additionally, as Season 2 ended with the appearance of Aunt Ophelia, who's been held captive by Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), there's a chance that Cousin Itt could appear in Wednesday's next Season.
Danny DeVito's Hollywood Career
Starting his career in 1969, Danny DeVito is an Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winning actor who has starred in numerous films and TV shows. Aside from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, DeVito has also appeared in Batman Returns as The Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot, The Lorax as The Lorax, Jumanji: The Next Level as Eddie Gilpin, had a small role in Friends, and voiced Dr. Dogballs in Season 8 of Rick and Morty among a variety of other roles.
The actor has received a handful of accolades. Out of his Emmy nominations for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series," he won the award in 1981 for his performance in Taxi. The same can be said for the Golden Globes, as he was nominated for "Best Supporting Actor - Television" for his Taxi performance three times, and won the award in 1980. Additionally, he was nominated for a Tony Award for "Best Featured Actor" in 2017 for his performance in The Price. DeVito is still active in the industry, as he will return to It's Sunny In Philadelphia's 18th Season in 2026. It was also reported that DeVito will return for the next Jumanji film, scheduled for release in December 2026.
Wednesday Season 3 has yet to announce a release date. In the meantime, Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
