December 24 is set to provide those who haven't seen the highest-grossing movie of 2025 with a new way to finally give the movie a watch. 2025 has seen some major box office hits, with two films making over $1 billion in their respective theatrical results thus far.
As such, while 2025 hasn't been as rife with heavy-hitting box office competition as some other years, the title of the highest-grossing movie of the year is still a major one for a film to hold. Despite this, the highest-grossing movie of 2025 is one many may have ironically missed, which makes December 24 all the more important this year.
2025's Highest-Grossing Movie Releases On HBO Max On December 24

December 24, 2025 will see Ne Zha 2 release on HBO Max, allowing those who haven't yet seen the movie despite its status as 2025's highest-grossing movie to be able to watch it.
While Ne Zha 2 has had staggering levels of box office success following its debut, the movie saw a far lower international result than its domestic gross, with only $23 million of its $2 billion box office total reportedly being from international box office sales (as per The Numbers).
This detail appears to be in part due to Ne Zha 2 first releasing in the US in only a limited capacity, but can also be attributed in part to international audiences not being aware of the film until after it had already gotten these impressive box office results with its theatrical run.
As such, HBO Max releasing Ne Zha 2 on streaming is a move that seems almost guaranteed to get thousands more to view the film, and thus allow the series' fanbase to grow yet further even after the movie's initial release period has come to a close.

Ne Zha 2 releasing on HBO Max on December 24 feels like intentionally stellar timing, given this will bring the film out on the streaming platform right in the middle of the holiday period.
Historically, this period of time is one wherein many view movies on streaming platforms more - as well as go to the cinema more - which means one of the biggest movies of the year releasing on HBO Max around this time bodes well for its prospective viewing numbers in the days and weeks that follow.
With the success of Ne Zha and Ne Zha 2 suggesting follow-up installments are very much possible for the franchise, there's all the more reason for those who haven't yet to watch Ne Zha 2 after its HBO release - which could potentially even allow a prospective third film in the series to net yet higher box office results than its predecessors, should it come to fruition.
