We as fans hang around for the vast majority of any calendar year without football to watch. We discuss coaching changes, facility upgrades, recruiting wins and losses, transfers, what qualifies as a sandwich, and so on, for 40 weeks out of the year. And it’s all enjoyable, but for many of us it’s just filler, waiting out the clock as the months flip from winter to spring to summer and then finally to fall when our dear Nittany Lions take the field 12 times and we hope that they emerge victorious.
Which is why it’s always crazy to me after waiting those 40 weeks for the 12-week season to finally get here, only for it to be gone in a flash.

In some (most?) years, Penn State makes a bowl game, and that lets us extend those 12 weeks to a 13th game, usually the better part of a month later. And at least once so far we’ve gotten to enjoy the playoffs well into January.
But 12 weeks is all we’re guaranteed as fans. This year, for instance, the Lions must win their 12th game to even qualify for a bowl game, and then there’s no guarantee that the team would even accept a bowl bid.
In the end, all of the off season discussion, the prognostications, the training camp updates all come down to 12 Saturdays a year, and somehow we’ve only got 1 of them left. Another season gone faster than we’d all like to believe.
Let’s enjoy what’s left of the 2025 season, because we all already know that 2026 is Our Year™, right?
