Amazon's new sling bag is stylish, but boy, is it expensive

I can't believe Amazon made a $70 sling bag just for Kindles The Kindle sling bag with a number of other accessories, including a Kindle, sunglasses, phone, and more. 4 By  Mark Jansen Published 6 minutes ago Mark has almost a decade of experience reporting on mobile technology, working previously with Digital Trends. Amazon has launched a brand-new accessory for its Kindle e-reader range, a sling bag designed to carry, protect, and show off your Kindle.

Made from recycled leather and with enough room to hold a Kindle, your phone, a charger, and other accessories you might need on a daily basis, including non-tech accessories like sunglasses or makeup — though the price tag may give you pause.

This launch has definitely come as a surprise to those who thought they knew what the Kindle brand was all about. Amazon is no stranger to odd Kindle tie-in accessories — just look at the Kindle branded umbrellas and mugs you can still buy for some reason — but this sling bag has very much come out of left field.

It's hard to deny it's not a good-looking bag though. The Kindle sling bag is made from 59% recycled leather, adding eco-friendly vibes on top of its stylish appeal, and it seemingly has enough room inside to fit a Kindle and a bunch of other stuff. It comes in two colors: Cinder (black), and Dune (white), though we have to admit the appeal of it is slightly diminished by the "Kindle" emblazoned on the front.

A leather shoulder strap can be adjusted to fit your needs, but the quiet star of the product appears to be an additional little leather strap with a pair of notches that can hold a Kindle upright. There's an image showing it in use, but oddly, Amazon doesn't mention it in the product description.

Style, but at a comparatively high price

It's easy to question why this product exists. The Kindle is a notoriously robust device that doesn't really need protection in the first place. It's also small enough to fit into some pockets, and can easily fit into most bags with no problems. So why bother with this bag in the first place?

Styling your Kindle is a booming movement, and even a casual glance at the r/Kindle subreddit will show you the gorgeous cases people love to clad their Kindles in. So a bag like this selling to that crowd isn't out of the question. People love their Kindles, and they want them to look good.

But what does give me pause is the price. The Sling Bag for Kindle is currently being offered for $70, down from an RRP of $80. That's very close to the sale price of a standard Kindle by itself, positioning this accessory as being of a similar value to the device it's meant to carry. Even if that value ratio extends when applied to the Paperwhite and the Colorsoft, it still feels a little odd.

Still, even with that caveat, it's a tempting proposition if you like to cart your Kindle around, but don't want to carry a full-sized bag with you. Since it also has room for most of your other kit too, this could be a bargain when used as an everyday bag for errands, shopping, or just trips to the cafe. The Sling Bag for Kindle is currently available at a discounted price of $70, and will fit a standard Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, or Kindle Colorsoft. No, a Scribe won't fit, don't be silly.

The Amazon Sling bag for Kindle isn't just a bag for your Kindle, it also has room to carry your phone, sunglasses, and other everyday accessories. Made from attractive recycled leather and featuring an adjustable leather shoulder strap and leather stand strap, this bag is the perfect complement for your Kindle addiction.
