The New York Giants (2-10) head up to Foxborough to face the surprising New England Patriots (10-2) on Monday Night Football in Week 13 of the 2025 NFL season.

Here are six things to know before Monday night's kickoff.

The series

This will be the 15th all-time meeting between the two teams since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger. The Pats lead the series, 7-5. The Giants are 3-3 on the road versus New England. This will be the Patriots' first Monday night game since 2022.

The two teams are frequent opponents in the preseason (a total of 32 times) and have met twice in the postseason, with the Giants winning both games.

The Giants won the most recent meeting with the Patriots on November 26, 2023, by a score of 10-7.

State of the Giants

The Giants have lost six straight games and are last in both the NFC East and the conference. If the season ended today, they would hold the second overall selection in the NFL draft. They were eliminated from the NFC Playoffs last week, their earliest exit from the postseason since 1976. They have 10 or more losses for the 10th time in the last 12 seasons.

This week, the Giants fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen and replaced him with inside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen. Despite dedicating the most salary cap resources to the defensive side of the ball in the NFL, the Giants have the 30th-ranked unit in the league.

State of the Patriots

The Pats currently have a two-and-a-half game lead over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East and are the No. 1 seed in the conference. In their first season under head coach Mike Vrabel, they've clinched their first winning season since 2021. They have won nine straight games and 10 of their last 11.

Maye is the real deal

It's no secret the Giants coveted Drake Maye in last year's draft, but the Patriots stayed put and selected him third overall. Last week versus Cincinnati, Maye completed 22 of 35 attempts. (62.9 pct.) for a career-high 294 yards and a touchdown. He has 220-plus passing yards in 11 of his 12 games this season, the most in the NFL.

Maye can become the fourth player ever under the age of 24 with 10 games of 200-plus pass yards and 100-plus passer rating. He aims for his third in a row in primetime with 70-plus completion percentage, 270-plus pass yards, and a 100-plus passer rating. Maye has completed 134 of 187 attempts. (71.7 percent) for 1,580 yards (263.3 per game) with 12 touchdowns (11 pass, 1 rush) and a 107.7 rating in six home starts this season.

Dart's status still up in the air

Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart missed the past two gams with a concussion, and as of this writing, is still in the protocol. It's unknown whether he will play even if he exits the protocol with a clean bill of health.

"We’ll just see where Jaxson is in the protocol, and then we’ll just make a decision based off that info," interim head coach Mike Kafka said after Sunday's game. "We’ll kind of play that out. But I like Jaxson if he’s healthy and ready to go.”

That may not be a certainty. The Giants have seen Dart's backup, Jameis Winston, do some spectacular things over the last two weeks and may not be in such a rush to put the rookie back into harm's way.

Fourth-quarter blues haunting Giants

The Giants have blown five fourth-quarter leads of 10+ points this season -- tied for the most in a single season in NFL history. If they held onto those leads, they'd be 7-5 instead of 2-10, and this season would have a different narrative.

The defense has cost the head coach (Brian Daboll) and coordinator (Shane Bowen) their jobs, and has many rethinking the construction of this roster and this franchise. General manager Joe Schoen is being allowed to be part of the future by leading the head coaching search, but in reality, this is his mess, and it will be difficult to unpack after throwing so much money at it.
