The "Rocky Mountain Showdown" rivalry between Colorado and Colorado State is unfortunately on a multi-season hiatus.

The Rams and Buffaloes did not play this season and are not scheduled to meet again until 2029.

Former CSU head coach Jay Norvell called out Sanders for wearing a hat and sunglasses during press conferences before their contest in 2023. It took two overtimes for No. 18 CU to knock off the Rams 43-35 in double overtime.

CSU fired Norvell earlier this season amid a 2-5 start and 18-26 record during his four seasons in Fort Collins.

Per ESPN's Pete Thamel, former Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora is leaving UConn to take the job opening at CSU.

"This is now official, with offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis taking over as the interim coach," said of the Rams hiring Mora and the Huskies naming Sammis as their interim head coach. "He's been on the UConn staff all four years, and this is his second season as offensive coordinator."

Mora, 64, went 27-23 during his four seasons at UConn. He's leaving after back-to-back nine-win seasons with the school. Mora went 46-30 during his first stint as a college head coach at UCLA.

Mora went 11-5 during his first season as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 2004. The Falcons made it to the NFC Championship Game before losing 27-10 to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Falcons fired Mora after his third season. He went 26-22 in Atlanta.

Mora went 5-11 in his only season as Seattle's head coach in 2009. He was replaced by Pete Carroll, who went on to make two Super Bowls and win one.

Per Thamel, CSU intends to be "at the top end" of spending for Group of 5 programs.

With a potential upgrade at head coach at CSU, it'll be interesting to see if Colorado tries to schedule its in-state rival. With the way the coaching carousel works now, it's hard to imagine Sanders will coach against Mora in 2029.
