Scrubs season 10 is already proving that the series will be improving on some of the lowest points of the original series with the latest teaser.

Scrubs is set to return to TV screens everywhere in 2026, but it's already proved it's better than Scrubs' lowest moment, season 9. Back in 2001, Scrubs broke new ground as a comedy-focused medical drama series that balanced emotion and humor, but the show's final season fell apart.

After eight wonderful seasons of relationship drama, fun character arcs, and incredible laugh-out-loud comedy beats, the show tried to move in a new direction. The season 8 finale had served as a perfect goodbye for J.D., but season 9 was introduced in an effort to continue that success, and ultimately felt a little hollow.

Scrubs Season 9 Tried To Change Too Much And Fell Flat

Scrubs season 9 was just too different from the original series to be enjoyed by the regular fanbase, and it held on too tightly to the past to make it work as something new. They introduced a new group of interns, and J.D. and Turk returned to connect the past to the present, but it wasn't the same.

Instead of being set in Sacred Heart, the show moved to a medical school, and while the new arrivals were talented actors and many have gone on to have incredible careers, the chemistry between the original cast was sorely missing.

Unfortunately, even the presence of J.D. and Turk ended up working against season 9, because the new cast was constantly compared to the originals, and the series was quickly and quietly canceled.

Scrubs Season 10 Will Officially Be Back At Sacred Heart

However, Scrubs season 10 was announced earlier in 2025, and over time, the original cast have largely been confirmed to return. Now, the latest teaser trailer for the reboot has provided a look at what we can expect, and it's great to see that these characters are back where they belong in Sacred Heart.

Despite being brief, the clip shows J.D., Turk, and Elliot all walking down the iconic halls of Sacred Heart hospital together. And if that wasn't clear enough, the logo can be seen behind the trio as they march confidently towards the new medical interns.

Sacred Heart was an integral piece of the puzzle for this show as it saw everyone immersed in their work and dealing with a variety of complex situations. The medical school setting in season 9 lost some of that intensity, and it couldn't compare to the vibrant and energetic pace that the hospital environment provided.

Scrubs Season 10 Will See The Original Cast Reunited

Even more important than the setting, however, is the cast. And alongside doctors John Dorian, Christopher Turk, and Elliot Reid, the Scrubs season 10 teaser also promptly showcases Dr. Perry Cox and nurse Carla Espinoza, alongside some new faces.

Not only that, but the dynamics between the entire original cast are full of the same magic spark that made Scrubs work, with Cox gently teasing J.D., Carla jumping to his defense, and J.D.'s typical quirky humor.

In addition, there is a group of new medical interns, and it appears that J.D., Elliot, and Turk will be leading their training. While this resembles the format of Scrubs season 9, the fact that it is set in Sacred Heart makes it distinctly different.

These aren't brand-new students. Each is at the point that J.D., Elliot, and Turk were at when the show first began in 2001. This offers a wonderful symmetry that season 9 lacked, while also bringing back the familiar friendships that made the show stand out in the first place.

The Scrubs Season 10 Teaser Trailer Confirms That The Worst Parts Of Season 9 Are Gone

Scrubs season 9 had J.D., and they had Turk. However, it didn't even keep both of these characters throughout the entire season, choosing instead to focus on a new generation of doctors they hoped to make the new stars. Unfortunately, this didn't work, and it resulted in the show's cancellation.

While the series has been off the air for 15 years, it's a credit to the enduring popularity of Scrubs that the series was retroactively brought back, and that the network is now bringing out a season 10, showing that this is a continuation of the original series, not a reboot.

This is important because the show seems set to build on the success of earlier seasons and hopefully explain what happened after season 9 to bring the original group back to Sacred Heart. But beyond that, it's great to see everyone reunited, especially those who were absent from Scrubs season 9.

There will continue to be a dynamic of these original characters being the guides and mentors to a new generation, but this time, they all get to do it together. This creates a wonderful setting for J.D. to daydream and reminisce about his time as an intern, and to see how his friendship with Dr. Cox has evolved.

It also means that the show can explore the wider family dynamics, with J.D.'s and Turk's kids, and the romantic lives of these characters, and where they intersect. All of that remains to be seen in Scrubs season 10, and thankfully, the teaser confirms that much of this is likely to be covered when the show finally drops in 2026.
