One Piece Has Officially Been Beaten by the Biggest Manga of 2025

Despite hardly releasing much at all in 2025, Berserk has had an astounding year in sales according to ComicHub's impressive statistics.

One Piece leads the world of manga handily in terms of units sold for its manga worldwide, alongside having a sprawling multimedia empire that grows stronger by the year. But this simply doesn't translate to definitive leads in annual manga sales, particularly in the market of American-printed English manga, where Berserk has seen an impressive 2025.

As gathered from a ComicHub sampling of worldwide American-published manga sales (via ICv2) Berserk's Deluxe Edition hardcover print volumes are still selling strong through 2025. While they fall just short of only Jujutsu Kaisen volume #1 in terms of units sold, Berserk Deluxe Edition volume #1 sits handily above One Piece's top-seller, both in sales volume total dollar value.

One Piece Loses Ground to Berserk in American-Published Manga Market

Berserk Deluxe Edition volume #1 beating One Piece's 3-in-1 volume #1 is surprising, but should be taken with a grain of salt. The sampling gathered sales data from January to December 2025 across 125 stores on the ComicHub system, of over 3000 stores worldwide. However, the patterns otherwise line up with a market of curious readers picking up new series.

One Piece has defined the past few decades of anime, but a new series coming from China and Crunchyroll looks to make the next decade its own.

Part of this fixation is a Berserk readership that's been growing impressively even since the passing of Kentaro Miura, sticking around to see how the series will eventually end. The Deluxe Edition in particular is often a prized shelf fixture for dedicated collectors, and while Berserk's far greater story comes many hardcovers later, it's an enticing collector's item, regardless.

But this is merely in terms of units sold, where Berserk ranked #2. In terms of total dollars, though, Berserk has a superior showing with more volumes than any other series in the top 10. At $49.99 MSRP, Berserk's hardcovers demand a higher price point, so its performance against One Piece's $14.99 edition, similarly compiling its first installments, literally speaks volumes.

Japan's Manga Rankings Tell a Different Story for One Piece

While manga prices being generally lower in Japan can certainly influence what series stay on top, it painted a wildly different picture of what series are truly dominating in their home market. As gathered by Oricon, Japan's top manga of 2025 were the following:

  1. One Piece: 4,211,363 copies sold
  2. Jujutsu Kaisen: 3,921,875 copies sold
  3. Dan Da Dan: 3,517,870 copies sold
  4. Blue Lock: 3,012,745 copies sold
  5. Kingdom: 2,497085 copies sold
  6. Blue Box: 2,385,295 copies sold
  7. Sakamoto Days: 2,344,740 copies sold
  8. The Apothecary Diaries: 2,252,310 copies sold
  9. My Hero Academia: 2,097,599 copies sold
  10. The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity: 2,038,691 copies sold

It can occasionally come across as a surprise to see the different series represented in Japan's market and what sells, especially since Kingdom only got into the North American market just last year. Blue Box is an excellent manga and anime, but it's not a significant source of buzz in North America or much of the English-speaking fandom.

However, even from ComicHub's sampling, some impressive nuances are beginning to show in its consumers. Witch Hat Atelier, a highly-anticipated yet still underhyped manga to get an adaptation by BUG FILMS, is holding its ground in units sold, and underneath the top 10, The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All, a yuri slice-of-life romance, hit #13.

Notice that One Piece has retaken the top spot in Japan according to Oricon. It's sold 578 million copies as of 2025, with 114 volumes as of March 4, 2026, to feed this mighty sales juggernaut. Berserk may be increasingly popular among newcomers and hardcore collectors, One Piece still remains in a league of its own in most other metrics.
