Naruto fans have long understood by now which of its clans ranked among its most powerful, either by approximate power metrics or via feats of strength. This led to a typical hierarchy that wouldn't budge over generations, namely the Ōtsutsuki, Senju, Uchiha, Uzumaki, and Hyuga, among others. But Naruto's next anime is poised to change this.

Following the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime's sudden conclusion just shy of adapting the Omnipotence Arc, a significant timeskip will allow this hierarchy to be challenged. The public's understanding of who is and isn't an Uzumaki has been fundamentally altered. The Hyuga clan has fade into the background, and the Uchiha's greatest scion is out of commission in Naruto's world.

This is a great opportunity for Naruto's next anime to showcase characters outside of these powerful clans, if entirely for the sake of helping it claim a more unique spot in the franchise timeline. But one particular clan is getting an impressive opportunity to shine like never before, and frankly, it's overdue.

This Underrated Konoha Clan Is Getting Its Moment in Naruto's Next Anime

Inojin in Boruto Two Blue Vortex Inojin in Boruto Two Blue Vortex

Ridiculous haircuts aside, the post-timeskip world of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex puts a surprising amount of focus into Inojin of the Yamanaka clan. While their position as a crucial sensory-based clan in Konoha's defense and intelligence efforts was laid out particularly by the Fourth Great Ninja War, Inojin's taking brand-new strides to make the family proud.

Starting in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #26, Inojin was summoned by Koji Kashin as part of Boruto Uzumaki's next operation against the Divine Trees. Inojin was summoned by Boruto and Koji in chapter #26, with him being briefed on Koji's visions and Himawari's potential demise in chapter #27. His task is simple: develop a revolutionary Mind Transfer Jutsu.

Dubbed the Mind Transfer Body Formation, this new jutsu effectively allows Inojin and those within his network to sense unique wave frequencies, completely breaking the Divine Trees' abilities to conceal their chakra. Developed in another Boruto timeline to avenge the loss of Himawari Uzumaki, it allows Inojin to conduct the perfect search-and-destroy ops.

Boruto manga suggests a potential canon romance between Inojin and Himawari, with chapter 26 preview hinting at their developing relationship.

But that's not all: Inojin has shown remarkable proficiency with his Mind Transfer Jutsu, such as in chapter #30 during which he reluctantly overtakes Lord Kobu using one of Koji's scientific ninja tool toads. Combine all these with mobility and combat flexibility of Sai's ink techniques, and Inojin shows to be a flexible supporting fighter, an underrated Naruto ninja asset.

Boruto Is Changing Naruto's Power Hierarchy

While there's plenty of controversy surrounding the changes to Naruto's characters in the Boruto series, it's all happening with creator Masashi Kishimoto's supervision. This keeps the franchise fresh, instead of stagnating on previous understandings about the series. By the time of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, its most powerful families have changed drastically.

Following Boruto's Omnipotence Arc, the Seventh Hokage's son is now perceived as an Ōtsutsuki, his altered DNA making this not far from the truth. Naruto and Hinata, prominent members of the Uzumaki and Hyuga clan, are out of commission. Sasuke is enveloped in the Divine Trees' snare. Sarada's powerful Mangekyo Sharingan is even running into a classic Uchiha weakness.

Raw power doesn't define a character's value as easily in Boruto.

While this means the Ōtsutsuki clan is about as dangerous as ever, other clans are fundamentally altered. Boruto is now incredibly powerful, having been trained by Sasuke and retaining any techniques he could train. Even with Sarada's limitations, she can crush Divine Tree threats rather easily. But raw power doesn't define a character's value as easily in Boruto.

To put it into gaming terms, Naruto fans may appreciate the DPS of characters like Naruto or Sasuke, but Inojin is about as good a Support character as it gets. With Mamushi's ability clearly contrived now as a way to test Inojin's new jutsu, he's demonstrating how, even not directly in battle, the Yamanaka clan proves invaluable.

Naruto's Next Anime Will Hopefully Feature Other Underrated Clans

The Yamanaka clan has featured strongly so far, from Inojin's role, to Sai's tepid cooperation as of chapter #31, and Ino's conflicted reaction to Shikamaru's collusion with Boruto. But don't forget, their prominence also showed in the final arc of Naruto with them being a major asset in the Fourth Great Ninja War.

But other clans have hardly gotten much love even now. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex hasn't shown much of clans like the Inuzuka or Aburame clan, for instance. With the series clearly writing to better incorporate the broad, valuable abilities of Konoha's shinobi, and the occasional inter-village instances like the brief interlude at the Land of Wind, major absences remain unaddressed.

While the manga has practically left zero room for filler stories to feature such characters at least in a Metal Lee fashion, it could at least expand on the stories at hand to make Konoha as a whole feel more involved. Mamushi's attack is village-wide right now, and it'd only make sense for classic Naruto ninjas at least as background support.

Still, with Boruto's next anime on the way, there's now an impressive backlog of chapters with breathing room for a seasonal approach. Pierrot has firmly secured a more consistent prestige reputation, to the point where other returns like Black Clover are massively anticipated. Boruto is now similarly set up for success, upon its inevitable continuation.
