Prime Video's Reacher made up for all the flaws that weighed down Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher movies. It looks like Netflix's new crime thriller, which is also based on a book series, will do the same for a failed 2017 movie.
When Prime Video's Reacher TV series was first announced, many readers of the original Jack Reacher books could help but feel skeptical. Since the Jack Reacher movies had already left many disappointed with their casting choices and book changes, the doubt surrounding the show made sense. However, the Prime Video series buried all doubt in season 1 itself by delivering a brilliant adaptation.
Netflix's upcoming crime thriller will now seemingly tread the same path and redeem a nine-year-old movie that got its source material wrong.

The first Jack Reacher movie, which premiered in 2012, received more of a lukewarm reception. While many were surprised that Tom Cruise was cast to play the giant protagonist from the books despite his significantly smaller stature, viewers could not help but appreciate how Cruise still captured Reacher's aura. Even at the box office, the movie managed to leave its mark by earning close to $220 million against a budget of $60 million.
The movie series, however, experienced a significant decline in every parameter with the second installment, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, revealing how it was never a worthy adaptation of the books.
By getting Jack Reacher's casting right, Prime Video's Reacher set itself up for success. Its winning formula of picking up one book per season also worked wonders. After Reacher, Netflix's new crime thriller, Jo Nesbo's Detective Hole, is on the right path towards fixing all the issues that weighed its preceding moving adaptation down.
The show is based on Norwegian author Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole book series. Like Lee Child's Jack Reacher books, even the Jo Nesbø novels were first picked for a movie adaptation, titled The Snowman. The film boasted an incredible cast, including big names like Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, Val Kilmer, and JK Simmons. Despite this, the movie not only flopped at the box office but also earned an underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes score of 7%.
Netflix's Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole has the original books' author as its main writer, which ensures it will be an accurate adaptation. Not to mention, like Reacher, it will focus on only one book per season, which improves the odds of its success.
Similar To Prime Video’s Reacher, Netflix’s Detective Hole Seems Far Better Than Its Movie Predecessor
While only time will tell how the show will turn out, it already looks quite promising in its first trailer. The show is led by talented actors like Tobias Santelmann and Joel Kinnaman and even its production looks top-notch in the action sequences featured in the trailer.

It is still too early to say anything about how the Netflix crime thriller will turn out, but it already seems to have the potential to be as successful as Reacher, if not more.
