Hades and Persephone look at each other lovingly in Lore Olympus
Prime Video’s upcoming fantasy TV show based on a bestselling comic has the potential to be amazing if it gets 1 thing right. While they don’t have a ton of great live-action fantasy shows, Prime Video has gained a reputation as a great source of animated fantasy.
Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein are two of the best fantasy shows of all time. They also acquired Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel, both of which have been wildly successful. Now, they’re adding on Lore Olympus, a fantasy show that has been long-awaited.
The show, based on the bestselling webtoon, was announced back in 2019. However, it quickly fell into development hell, with rumors that it was cancelled. Then, at the end of January 2026, word broke that Prime Video picked up Lore Olympus. If the fantasy show wants to be successful, it needs to get one big thing right.
Lore Olympus's Art Changed Throughout The Bestselling Comics' Run

The art in the comics looks drastically different at the very beginning than it does towards the end of Lore Olympus. At the start, there were at least some consistent qualities across panels. However, everything shifted when Rachel Smythe began hiring assistants to draw art for the project.
The style changed rapidly to the point that it was noticeable when different artists took over. The comic developed same-face syndrome, in which all the characters’ facial features began to look identical. It just had an overall decline in quality.
Prime Video's Lore Olympus TV Show Cannot Abandon The Iconic Early Art Style

Rachel Smythe has never been the most technically proficient artist. No shade towards her. She still created an award-winning comic without some of the skills that more trained artists would have. That being said, it would make sense for the Lore Olympus TV show to fix issues like linework and inconsistent character art.
However, it needs to maintain the key crucial elements that make the early art style iconic. The colors should be high-contrast, vibrant, and complementary. The animators need to maintain the heavily stylized art, especially in the characters’ overexaggerated body language and expressions. There needs to be glowiness and texture that give the story a moody, ethereal quality. Ultimately, the Lore Olympus TV show needs to be enjoyable to look at.
Why Lore Olympus's Later Art Style Just Isn't Good Enough For The Prime Video Show

As previously mentioned, the art became an issue later in Lore Olympus. All the faces looked the same, and the art styles shifted based on who was drawing it. However, those aren’t the only reasons why the Prime Video show shouldn’t use the visuals from later chapters.
By the end of Lore Olympus, the art was boring. All those special qualities that made up Lore Olympus’ art fingerprint were essentially discarded. The backgrounds became dull. The composition became lazy. We didn’t get any more beautiful glows to give us that warm, fuzzy feeling.
