Stephen Amell has officially been cast in a leading role for Fox’s upcoming Baywatch reboot.

According to Variety, Amell is the first confirmed cast member for the Baywatch relaunch. The Fox show was ordered for the 2026–2027 season and will consist of 12 episodes. An open casting call is scheduled for February 18, 2026, and production is expected to start this spring in LA.

Amell will take on the role of Hobie Buchannon. The character is a Baywatch Captain and is considered the beloved “wild child” from the flagship series. According to the character description, the show's storyline will introduce Hobie’s daughter, Charlie, whom he didn't even know existed. She finds him and wants to follow in his footsteps by training to become a Baywatch lifeguard.

Check out the full description below:

Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.

The actor is widely recognized for his portrayal of the DC superhero Green Arrow on the show Arrow, which ran for eight seasons. He also appeared in Heels, a Starz sports drama, the Suits spinoff series, Suits LA, and the science fiction movie Code 8 and its sequel.

The Baywatch reboot's showrunner, Matt Nix, expressed his excitement for the project and praised Amell’s talent and professionalism. He said that the actor brings the "heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy" that is needed for the new adaptation. He added how impressed he was with his ability to handle both action-packed scenes and emotional moments.

From the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy. He’s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We’re so excited to get started.

Hobie was in several seasons of the original Baywatch. The character was initially portrayed by Brandon Call and later by Jeremy Jackson. The series premiered in 1989 and had close to 250 episodes. The show was retitled Baywatch: Hawaii during seasons 10 and 11.
