Back in December 2025, it was finally confirmed that production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day had come to an end, with the countdown to Tom Holland suiting up again well and truly on. Ready to follow the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Brand New Day is the next stop before the MCU train comes into Doomsday station, as one of the most anticipated movie events of the year debuts on December 18.
With Zendaya and Jacob Batalon returning as MJ and Ned, alongside Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, Michael Mando back as Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, and even Stranger Things favorite Sadie Sink, excitement is undoubtedly high for Brand New Day. However, many wonder how the movie will stack up against Spider-Man movies of the past, with some of the very best coming in the past decade. One of these, a film considered by some to be the very best Spider-Man movie ever, is currently a streaming hit in the U.S.
At the time of writing, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Disney+ in the U.S. As the follow-up to the hugely successful Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Across the Spider-Verse had an impressively high bar to reach. Without a stutter, the movie smashed all expectations, earning near-perfect 95% scores from both audiences and critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus on the site from critics reads, "Just as visually dazzling and action-packed as its predecessor, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse thrills from start to cliffhanger conclusion." Audiences said, "From incredible animation to a super story and tons of Easter eggs, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has everything fans could ask for."

Against a reported production budget of $100 million, Across the Spider-Verse earned an impressive $690 million in global revenue. Split between a $381 million domestic haul and a further $309 million from overseas markets, Across the Spider-Verse battled tough summer competition to take top spot in the U.S. ranks on its opening weekend. The film finished 2023 as the sixth-highest-grossing movie worldwide, and the third-highest-grossing in the U.S.
