After last week, one potential Avengers and X-Men team-up feels impossible to avoid. With the MCU heading ever closer toward Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, speculation is running wild about which characters will and won't appear, as well as the interactions we might see between Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Marvel's classic mutant heroes.
In that vein, there's one key MCU pairing we should absolutely see in one or both of the upcoming Avengers movies. While the odds are still high, recent interviews have made a potential Thor and Storm team-up pretty hard for Marvel Studios to ignore.
Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Halle Berry's Storm NEED An MCU Team-Up
During last week's press tour for their upcoming movie Crime 101, actors Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, and Mark Ruffalo were repeatedly asked whether Berry’s Storm would appear in Avengers: Doomsday. While an appearance from Storm in Doomsday feels unlikely, Secret Wars may still be a real possibility based on some more hopeful comments from Hemsworth/Berry.
Without a doubt, Halle Berry’s Storm is one of the most requested X-Men returns of those who've yet to be confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday.
It also helps that Secret Wars hasn't yet begun filming, with production expected to begin in a couple of months, meaning Marvel can pivot if Storm's inclusion isn't already in the works. Whether it's already part of the Doomsday/Secret Wars plan or not, Marvel Studios pairing Hemsworth’s Thor with Berry’s Storm would be all kinds of epic.
After all, Thor and Storm's team-ups in the comics with their shared command over thunder and lightning have always been impressive, so seeing that translated to live-action would be quite the spectacle (while also making full use of having both the Avengers and X-Men in the same movie for the first time).
Storm Wielded Mjolnir In What If...? (Now Let's See It In Secret Wars)
Storm as the Goddess of Thunder in What If...?'s third season
Likewise, Marvel has already planted the seeds for Storm/Thor in animation. In Marvel's What If...? season 3, a variant of Storm who became the Goddess of Thunder was featured, wielding Mjolnir as an instantly iconic multiversal hero.
If Avengers: Secret Wars draws inspiration from the 2015 comics event of the same name, Storm's Goddess of Thor could easily debut in live-action (and played by Berry) as a member of the Thor Corps, the police force of multiple Thor variants serving God Emperor Doom.
