LANCASTER – The beat goes on for the Fisher Catholic girls’ basketball team.
On Feb. 9, the Irish defeated Zanesville Rosecrans 58-22 to clinch another undefeated record in the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division, and in the process, won their third consecutive league championship and extended their league winning streak to 44 games.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Irish improved to 19-2 overall and, on Feb. 8, were awarded the No. 1 seed at the Central District Division VII tournament draw.
Sophomore Hadli Gillum led the way against the Bishops with 29 points, including five 3-pointers, and four assists. Sydney Snoke added 11 points and 14 rebounds.

“The league was more competitive this year. There were three games we could have lost, but we were able to pull them out at the end.” Fisher Catholic coach Ben Bethel said. “We were down 20 points against Wellington, down 35-15, and we came back and won by one. I’m Proud of our girls for winning another league title and earning the No. 1 seed because we lost a couple of good players to graduation.”
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFisher Catholic played its final regular season game Feb. 11 against visiting Washington Court House and fell 51-43. The score was tied at the end of the first quarter, but the Blue Lions were able to pull away in the second quarter to take a 28-17 halftime lead.
The Irish cut the deficit to 41-34 heading into the fourth quarter. With 1:33 remaining, the Irish cut the margin to 49-43, thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from Gillum and Ava Warrens, and had a couple of chances to cut into the lead even more, but came up short.
Gillum led the way with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Snoke chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Irish will be off more than a week before they begin tournament play at home against Liberty Christian at 4 p.m. Feb. 21.
