Animation has emerged in recent years as one of the leading drivers of box office success. Just last year, Zootopia 2 outperformed many live-action blockbusters on its way to grossing over $1.7 billion at the global box office. This comes after other animated hits like Ne Zha 2 had no problem smashing box office records, while major Marvel movies like Thunderbolts* failed to turn a profit. It’s clear that a new age in Hollywood is upon us, and with a plethora of animated hits coming down the line, the genre is only going to get more flush as time goes on.
One of the biggest box office hits to come out in the last few years was The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which stars Chris Pratt as Mario and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. On the backs of other stars, like Jack Black as Bowser, The Super Mario Bros. Movie grossed over $1.3 billion at the global box office, making it one of the most profitable movies ever. It was a no-brainer for Nintendo to greenlight a sequel, which is now scheduled to be released on April 1. Promotion for the film is now in full swing.
Nintendo released a new look at The Super Mario Galaxy Movie for the Super Bowl, with the film now less than two months away from its global premiere. It’s currently slated to be released on April 1, almost exactly three years removed from the debut of the original film. The new Mario movie will take the duo of plumber brothers on a wild new adventure, with Brie Larson and Benny Safdie joining the cast as Rosalina and Bowser Jr, not to mention the absolutely adorable Yoshi.
Chris Pratt Has a New Apple Movie Coming Soon
Earlier this week, Apple TV officially announced its next film with Chris Pratt, Way of the Warrior Kid, which co-stars Linda Cardellini. The film follows a Navy SEAL who returns home to stay with his sister, only to realize that her son/his nephew is being bullied. He takes it upon himself to teach him to stand up for himself. The film will be released on Apple TV on November 20 this year and will be directed by McG, with a script by Will Staples.
