When it comes to the superhero movie genre, Sam Raimi is no stranger to the world of comic book stories in Hollywood. From bringing the first Spider-Man trilogy to the big screen, the filmmaker has also taken on one of the biggest heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.

Raimi, who helmed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, recently opened up about a big regret he had with the 2022 film in an interview with Total Film. After working with Rachel McAdams on the MCU installment, he stressed how “First, she was the perfect person because she’s such a brilliant actress.

He elaborated by saying, "I had a chance to work with her on my last film and saw how talented she was and actually underutilized," referring to her return as Christine Palmer, including a variant. Raimi shared that, "I promised myself that I would work with her again. And then this film came up, and her warmth is wonderful," as Send Help has now opened in theaters, where she co-stars alongside Dylan O'Brien.

Sam Raimi: The fact that she has not really played a dark, terrible villain before, [producer Zainab Azizi] is the one that told me this, really sets the audience up to be surprised.

While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness grossed $955 million at the worldwide box office, a third installment has yet to go forward officially at Marvel Studios at the time of this story's publication. With the remaining upcoming Marvel movies for Phase 6, a sequel will likely not happen until after The Multiverse Saga is over.

Even though Doctor Strange 3 isn't formally on the table yet, Stephen Strange will be back sooner than later. Benedict Cumberbatch will be back for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with the Phase 6 finale set to start filming this summer, featuring the Russo brothers back as the directors.
