We're entering Day 9 of the heightened frenzy surrounding Lane Kiffin's job decision among Ole Miss football, LSU and Florida.

The No. 6 Rebels (10-1, 6-1 SEC) are in their game week preparations for the Egg Bowl at Mississippi State (5-6, 1-6), which will be played on Nov. 28 (11 a.m. ABC).

Ole Miss in position to make the College Football Playoff for the first time. The latest rankings will be announced on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. on ESPN.

Kiffin's decision is expected to be announced on Nov. 29, the day after the Egg Bowl, according to Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter.

Meanwhile fans of the Rebels, Tigers and Gators have four more days of waiting.

Lane Kiffin press conference, what Ole Miss coach said

Lane Kiffin wanted to talk about nothing else but the Egg Bowl in his weekly press conference Nov. 24. Kiffin deflected questions about his future, including being pursued by Florida and LSU.

"I'm sure you've got a lot of other questions but I'm just answering questions focused on the team and this season and our players," Kiffin said.

Despite the possibility of leaving to coach LSU or Florida, Lane Kiffin said he values coaching Ole Miss through the end of the 2025 season.

"Very important," Kiffin said Nov. 24. "I've never thought of anything different than that."

Ole Miss football quarterback Trinidad Chambliss put out a message in the middle of anxious times for Rebels fans.

On Nov. 24, Chambliss posted a statement on X addressed to fans.

"To our fans, this team is completely locked in, living in the moment, and staying true to our 1-0 mindset for the Egg Bowl and future games," Chambliss said. "We are unbothered by anything about next year and fully trusting Coach Kiffin's leadership to keep up moving toward our goals."

Is Lane Kiffin sweepstakes down to LSU, Ole Miss?

Pete Thamel of ESPN reported on "College GameDay" Nov. 22 that people close to Kiffin don't know what decision the Ole Miss coach is going to make.

But he said the Rebels' main competition appears to be LSU, which has focused its search on Kiffin. Thamel said Florida is conducting a wider search that includes Kiffin.

Lane Kiffin contract offer from LSU, Florida, Ole Miss expected to be huge raise

Lane Kiffin's current salary is $9 million. LSU, Florida and Ole Miss are expected to offer Kiffin in the $13 million to $14 million range, according to On3.

In addition the three schools are also expected to offer at least $25 million for NIL roster investment, according to the report.

What is Lane Kiffin's contract, salary?

Ole Miss' win against Oklahoma on Oct. 25 triggered an automatic contract extension for Kiffin.

Because it was Ole Miss' seventh regular-season win, Kiffin's state contract with the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation will be automatically extended one year on Jan. 1, 2026. His contract now runs through Dec. 31, 2031.

The added year will be worth $9 million, with $7.2 million guaranteed.

Kiffin's $9 million salary is tied for No. 6 in the SEC.

Lane Kiffin buyout

As of Dec. 1, 2025, if Ole Miss fires Kiffin without cause, he would be set to receive $36.6 million.

It is the 15th-most expensive buyout of the 105 programs USA TODAY Sports could review, and No. 7 in the SEC.
