CD Projekt RED is particularly proud of Cyberpunk 2077 right now, and it's easy to see why. After what can only politely be described as a troubled launch, the RPG has established itself as one of the most essential video games of the last decade.
Cyberpunk 2077's victory was solidified by the release of the excellent Phantom Liberty expansion. And while CD Projekt RED has continued to release updates here and there for the game, it was with Phantom Liberty that Cyberpunk 2077 cemented itself as one of the ultimate gaming comeback stories.
Cyberpunk 2077 Via PlayStation Plus Has Been A Hit
It's not too hard to see why

Cyberpunk 2077 landed on PlayStation Plus Extra a few months ago, where it's gone on to win over even more players. It's not hard to see why. Doubtless, there were still some gamers a little twitchy at the thought of spending money on a game that got such a bad reputation at launch. PlayStation Plus was a low-risk way to confirm for themselves what others were saying: that Cyberpunk 2077 is brilliant now.
The latest Q3 results from CD Projekt show that PlayStation Plus has actually been a major boon to Cyberpunk 2077. Specifically, it's helped sell tons of copies of the Phantom Liberty expansion, which is not included with the PlayStation Plus version of the game.
"Based on data from the first four months of the game's availability to subscribers, we see that interest in the Cyberpunk franchise on PlayStation remains strong, and that the game continues to reach new groups of players on that platform," Co-CEO Michal Nowakowski said.
"Beyond the direct positive financial impact that the PlayStation licensing deal had on our Q3 results, we are particularly glad to see that many of these new players choose to buy the Phantom Liberty expansion and expand their adventures in Night City."
CD Projekt chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz added:
"We booked income attributable to introducing the base edition of Cyberpunk to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscription services, as well as to sales of the Ultimate Edition of the game for Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac platforms. Talking about the Cyberpunk product family, all of the above resulted in a more than twofold increase in revenues compared to Q3 2024. This year we generated even higher sales and more profits than two years ago, which is when Phantom Liberty was launched."
Cyberpunk 2077's Sequel Is On The Way
Just... be prepared for a wait
Now that Cyberpunk 2077 is the game it was always meant to be, work has begun on the sequel. It's worth pointing out that The Witcher 4 is the current priority right now, though.
With that said, Cyberpunk 2077 is still a big deal for CD Projekt, and CDPR is staffing up accordingly for work on the sequel as we speak. Whether we head back to Night City or not remains to be seen, but given the current state of Cyberpunk 2077, I can't wait to see what CDPR has learned, and what we get from the follow-up.
