Google remains the top search engine worldwide. As of November 2025, the search engine still holds almost 90 percent market share, with the second-biggest player, Bing, rocking just over four percent.

Considering the dominant position, any and all trend data coming from the search engine offers a snapshot of what the world is searching for. Leveraging that data, Google is now rolling out its 2025 Year in Search, essentially offering a look back at the year's most significant events and trends.

The tech giant released its Year in Search with a comprehensive look at both global and country-based interests, though we'll be focusing mostly on what captivated the US audience.

Starting off with just searches in general, interests appear very fragmented. The top three spots went to Charlie Kirk, the movie KPop Demon Hunters, and the viral collectible Labubu toys. Here's what followed:

4. iPhone 17

5. One Big Beautiful Bill Act

6. Zohran Mamdani

7. DeepSeek

8. Government shutdown

9. FIFA Club World Cup

10. Tariffs

Top news events of the year and the top searches had some similarities. The top three news reports, according to US Search Trends, were One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Government shutdown, and Charlie Kirk assassination, followed by Tariffs, No Kings protest, Los Angeles fires, New Pope chosen, Epstein files, U.S. Presidential Inauguration, and Hurricane Melissa. These topics are what American manually searched for.
