Former Nebraska softball player Billie Andrews was selected by the Oklahoma City Spark of the Athletes United Softball League allocation draft on Monday night. She was the 1st pick taken in Round 4 and the 19th overall.

The Spark was one of two expansion teams, along with the Cascade, added to the previously four-team league which debuted earlier in 2025. Former Huskers catcher Taylor Edwards was a member of the Blaze in the league’s debut season but is not currently listed on a roster for the upcoming 2026 season.

The allocation draft was the second of two drafts last night. The first was the expansion draft allowed which allowed first-year teams Oklahoma City Spark and Cascade, to select current unprotected AUSL players to fill their rosters.

Once completed, the allocation draft was performed in which all six teams drafted players not currently on AUS rosters (as pro sports drafts are typically done). Maya Brady, formerly of UCLA, was the first selection of the expansion draft, and Kelly Maxwell, the former Sooners pitcher, was picked first in the allocation draft.

Andrews was a two-time All-American, three-time all-region selection, and four-time All-Big Ten pick during her Husker career. She was also a three-time academic all-district selection and was Nebraska’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2024 after being the Husker Female Athlete of the Year in 2022.

The Gretna High star sits on or near the top of most Nebraska softball career record lists highlighted by being 1st in home runs (61) and 2nd in extra-base hits (100) and slugging percentage (.679).

The 2026 Signing Class & My Previous Confusion Explained

In a piece I did on the Huskers signing class about three weeks ago, I expressed confusion on how the seven players listed as part of the 2026 class would fit on the 2026 roster as they already have 23 players on a roster which now has a hard limit of 25 players – which would include an odd assumption all would forego their senior season by leaving early to join the team in the Spring. Odd, but not unheard of, since Huskers catcher Karlie Muhlbach did this in 2025, choosing to join the team and redshirt while acclimating herself to the training and travel demands of D1 softball.

I offered different scenarios and suggestions before getting the explanation from the Huskers Communications Department, and Occam’s Razor was fully in effect as the simplest explanation was the correct one.

Basically, their signing class year is that of the semester the year they enter school, so even though this group, which signed in November of 2025, will not play their first games until the spring of 2027, they are considered members of the 2026 signing class since they will begin school in September of 2026. The two freshmen on the current roster who begin play next Spring 2026 are in the 2025 signing class.

So there you go. Got it? Good.
