Give me a lighthearted recap
A story of strength, survival, and determination continues today in the latest trailer for the second season of A Thousand Blows. The gritty period drama that took the world by storm earlier this year is only a few weeks away from its continuation, with Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and Disney+ preparing to roll out the red carpet for its January 9 premiere. This time, the stakes are even higher, but the spirits are a little bit lower as Malachi Kirby, Stephen Graham, and Erin Doherty return to the ring for another round in their personal quests for power.
It’s been a full year since the events of the first season, and Mary Carr (Doherty) is bursting back into the East End of London with a plan up her sleeve. She’s ready to get the ruthless all-female crime organization The Forty Elephants back together and help them in their grasp for power. But, to reach their fullest potential, Mary knows that the crew will need some help, which she seeks out in Graham’s Sugar Goodson, who is doing everything he can to walk the straight and narrow. Meanwhile, Hezekiah (Kirby) is still reeling from the death of his beloved brother and ready to seek vengeance. With the backdrop of their biggest heist yet, The Forty Elephants have some rather large and irritated fish to fry, which will see them form unlikely bonds, all while Sugar Goodson steps back into the ring for good.
The leading trio won’t be the only names returning for the next set of episodes, with the familiar faces of James Nelson-Joyce (Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant), Darci Shaw (This City Is Ours), Hannah Walters (Boiling Point), Nadia Albina (The Hack), Morgan Hilaire, Jemma Carlton (Maxine), Caoilfhionn Dunne (Saint Maud), Jason Tobin (Warrior), Susan Lynch (Beautiful Creatures), Daniel Mays (The Thursday Murder Club), Gary Lewis (Outlander), Aliyah Odoffin (The Strays) and Robert Glenister (Sherwood) back in action. Additionally, Ned Dennehy (Guns Akimbo) and Catherine McCormack (28 Weeks Later) join the call sheet.
Steven Knight’s Latest Gritty Drama
With titles like Peaky Blinders and House of Guinness in his catalogue, it’s easy to see that Steven Knight has a pull to a certain place and time. His work behind A Thousand Blows is no different and reunites him with Graham, with the two having previously worked on Peaky Blinders and Knight’s period drama, Taboo, which he co-created alongside Tom and Chips Hardy. Next, audiences can expect to see Knight’s hand in the new James Bond movie, which he’s writing with Denis Villeneuve (Dune) as its director.
Check out the latest trailer for A Thousand Blows above and see it on Disney+, Hulu, and Hulu on Disney+ on January 9.
