The Straw Hat Pirates are still a few months away from embarking on more adventures in Season 2, but Season 3 of the live-action One Piece adaptation has already set sail. Netflix released a new poster today confirming that production has officially begun in Cape Town once more. Featuring the script, a skull, a compass, and a conspicuous dagger that belongs to none other than Luffy's sworn brother, Portgas D. Ace, it teases a season full of danger for the crew that will introduce no shortage of fan-favorite characters from the original manga and anime. Along with the production announcement, the streamer also confirmed that all four of Mikaela Hoover, Joe Manganiello, Lera Abova, and Sendhil Ramamurthy have been upped to series regulars following their upcoming appearances in Into the Grand Line.

All four actors figure to have major roles to play throughout the run of One Piece, given their prominence in Eiichiro Oda's story. Most recently appearing in James Gunn's Superman as Cat Grant, Hoover joined Season 2 as the voice of the Straw Hats' reindeer doctor, Tony Tony Chopper, whom Oda has called the "key" to the upcoming season. Manganiello and Abova, meanwhile, will oppose the pirates, at least initially, as the Baroque Works leader Mr. 0, aka Crocodile, and Miss All Sunday, aka Nico Robin. Neither promotion is particularly surprising, with Crocodile being one of Luffy's longest-running foes and Nico being integral to the crew's journey going forward. Finally, Ramamurthy is playing the King of Arabasta, Nefertari Cobra, another key figure in the Arabasta arc, which should take center stage in Season 3.

Alongside them, Charithra Chandran is also returning to Cape Town as Miss Wednesday, alongside the original Straw Hat crew that started it all, Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero, and Taz Skylar. One of the major new additions, as teased by the poster, is that of Cobra Kai and Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña as the fan-favorite Ace. It's an exciting turn for Maridueña in part because he's been vocal about wanting to work with Godoy on a project, whether it be One Piece or not. Also joining the fray is Broadway star Cole Escola as Bon Clay. More casting news will be announced in the near future. Season 3 will also see a shift at the top, with Joe Tracz now sharing writing and co-showrunning duties with Ian Stokes after Matt Owens stepped back to focus on his mental health.

Now that the core Straw Hats have gathered, Season 2, Into the Grand Line, will open up the world of One Piece in a big way. Luffy and the gang will be exploring the bizarre and dangerous new islands that await, full of bigger threats and more perilous conditions that will test the crew's mettle on their hunt for the world's greatest treasure. From the port city of Loguetown to the giant cactus-strewn lands of Whiskey Peak, the Going Merry will get a taste of everything the unpredictable expanse of sea has to offer, learning why it's called the pirates' graveyard. Such a vast new area means loads of new faces, including, among others, Katey Sagal, David Dastmalchian, Jazzara Jaslyn, Mark Harelik, Werner Coetser, Brendan Murray, Clive Russell, Ty Keogh, Rob Colletti, Callum Kerr, Julia Rehwald, Camrus Johnson, and Daniel Laske.

One Piece is now filming Season 3. Season 2, Into the Grand Line, will dock at Netflix on March 10, 2026. Stay tuned here at Collider for more as work officially gets underway on the next chapter.
